VW transporter power problem

I have a 04 T5 130PS transporter and recently couldnt get over about 60MPH. other than that the engine seemed to be running normally. With the clutch depresed I could only rev it to 4000 RPM. After stoping for about 10 minutes and then setting off on the joirney again full power was resumed. No warning lights were visible. I have heard this could have been caused by failsafe mode. has anyone had similar problems or knows what happened.

Many thanks
Nick

Hi nick. I have a T5 04 model and recently had the same problem. i was told it was a blown turbo so i had a friend look at it and turbo was fine. got vw to run a diagnostics and it had a broken wire running from the charge pressure meter. replaced for 9 euro. 3 weeks later same problem and it turned out to be a loose plug on the air mass meter. now its perfect again. apparently what happens is that if the engin management is getting a wrong reading from the pressure meter it limits the van to 40 horse power for fear of blowing the engine. whenever i switched the van off and back on the problem would fix itself but as time went on it got worse until complete failure. the wire is located under the coolant resivoir. dont know exactly where though. email me on paulblackpb@gmail.com if you need to know more. if it does turn out to be the turbo (which i doubt) then there is a website called CRTurbos that seem to be the cheapest around. but i seen another forum where the turbos were replaced and the problem remained. I suggest first look at the charge pressure meter.

Both Federation, and Romulan Transporter's vary greatly from that of the VW.

Was your 60MPH speed limit RPM restricted? (e.g. 60MPH @ 4000RPM)

Engine surge at 60 mph

on flat ground? 60mph.
my guess, is, its running lean.
use a scan tool (real no useless code readers)
and look for closed loopstatus at 60mph. and idle.
if its not going to CL, status, that IS the top symptoms.
and LTFT, (long term fuel trim)
+5% Is typical, +40% is lean.

lean is caused by many things, sorry more tests.
one, is low fuel pressure.

(or under reported, air , for any reasons. MAP or MAF based engines)
under reported, caused, lean.
in closed loop this is corrected.
at wide open throttle on hill if power is low, that might be low fuel pressures , so does it do that?

I recently purchased 04 Dodge Neon SXT automatic transmission and now the check engine lite is on and the transmission will not shift past 40mph but will go to 60mph is the transmission toast

Its probably just a shift solonoid. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes at your local auto parts store and bring the codes back here so we can help you determine whats going on with it.

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

I have a 02 vw 1.8T jetta, 78k miles. My malfunction indicator lamp is on. My car is very sluggish when I try putting my foot on the gas. While driving 60mph, it seems like my car (engine) is running...

you need to get your car plugged in to diagnose the fault correctly the 1.8t engine suffers with split vacuum pipes on the front of the engine these pipes are for the egr and turbo regulating solenoids

I had the same problem with my T5 130. My mechanic replaced the head gasket to no avail, then we checked the oil filter, that was ok.then we went on to a web forum and found out that the AXD engine suffers from water pump failure. We took it off and it was corroded, the seal had failed and was pumping water into the block. My advice,CHECK WATER PUMP FIRST! Good luck Marc,Somerset.
