Had similar problems occur on various Chrysler products manufactured since 1986. What I did was remove the computer from the car and then take a Dremel tool with wire brush attachment and lightly buff all the pins of the computer--tops, sides and backs. After this I then take a jewelers round file and insert the tip into each connector pin hole and very lightly file it to remove any corrision. When I reassembling the connector plug to the computer I placed a good size dab of silicon grease on the plug in the center (acts as a seal when seated). This has eliminated the problem on four different vehicles.

one is the crank sensor,m the other is the cam sensor-which was it? you should get the actual code so there is no doubt, if you are having a hard time getting it started, it is probably a crank sensor, if it only manifests itself when running it could be either crank or cam sensor.

Code P1391, replaced camshaft and crankshaft sensors, plugs and wires, rotor, and a couple fuses, can a loose or bad distributor be the cause for this code?

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P1391: "INTERMITTENT LOSS OF CMP OR CKP"
This DTC is monitored with the engine cranking or running. This DTC will be stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when the PCM FAILURE COUNTER reaches 96 failures for 2 consecutive trips.
Posiible causes are: Craknkshaft Position (CKP) sensor improperly installed, defective CKP sensor, defective distributor, defective Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, defective PCM, defective or broken flywheel, defective connectors or defective wiring.
Proper diagnosis is recommended before replacing ANY parts.

P1391 cmp sensor or lost of cmp

DTC P1391 - Intermittent Loss of CMP (Camshaft Position) Or CKP (Crankshaft Position) sensor

Your Crankshaft or Camshaft sensor is not working properly. Needs to be checked out and maybe replaced; first try checking the wiring and harnesses (very common failures).

2001 DODGE RUNS FOR AWHILE,THENS CUT OFF,IT WON'T CRANK BACK TILL BATTERY IS DICONNECTED,AND SITS AWHILE.I HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED THE CODE WAS P1391.

The code p1391 is telling you that your ckp/cmp sensor signal is lost. What it is saying in normal terms is that the (crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor) are not sending a signal from time to time. That is why the car cuts out and will not start. First thing is to look at both sensors and check the wireing to each for any damage. The ckp is located on the front of motor on bottom side. The cmp sensor is located on the back of engine near the top. You have either one or both sensors that are not giving a signal to the pcm (power control module ). Hope this will help.

What is code po1391

Code P1391 is Intermittent loss of the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) or the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).
What size engine? 3.0L, 3.3L 3.8L?
For a 3.8L:
The Camshaft Postion Sensor is located on the top of the timing chain cover on the front of the engine on the right side of the Van. It is located below the Large accordian hose coming from the air filter box to the Throttle, looking straight down. You have to remove the 10mm bolt attaching it to the engine block, and pull it out. Do not pull on the wires. Disconnect the wiring connection. It has a rubber o-ring and is pretty snug in the hole, Because of it's location, it may be a little difficult to pull-out.
The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located on the back part engine right adjacent to the area of the Transmission Bell Housing. Remove the Battery and Battery Tray to more easily access.
It will be around $100-110 dollars to replace both.
Make sure when you replace one with a new one to put clean engine oil on the rubber o-ring to ease installation.
