I just had the motor changed in my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse GT and on my way home from picking it up I notice that when I got up to about 60 mph my speed odometer started acting up saying I was going 140mph then it like shifted and the neutral symbol on my dash started blinking.( Never happened before with my old motor. ) it seems like it didn't want to shift out of second and third gear. When I got home and shut the car off and it sat for about 15 minutes went and tried it again and it was fine until I got up to about 50 mph again and it did the same thing. Could this be my speed sensor needs to be replaced

Sam,
I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.
I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.
Good Luck
