Question about 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My dad has a 1994 cavalier that will roll over but it will not fire at all. It was running fine until he removed the clutch and rebuilt it. Two different mechanics have looked at it but cannot find why it will not fire. The crankcase sensor has been replaced, the computer has been replaced, the module behind the coil pack has been replaced, and the coils have been removed one at a time and replaced with one that was supposed to be good. Where do we start?

WOW, two mechanic looked at it and cant figure it out. my guess was the crank case sensor, I would have that sensor check again; can be faulty. If the coil is good and getting power and you replaced computer, I don't understand why would it not fire. The sensor sense the turning of the flywheel send a signal to the computer telling the comp. to send sparks to the coil. Is the sensor and comp new or used?

Changed the clutch?? now is this an american cavalier ?? or a british vauxhall cavalier?? well the problem seems the same but the vehicle build is totally different.Without the offending vehicle in friont of me its difficult to get my ameba brain cell working ,but if the clutch was changed then the battery was disconnected and this could be the problem because in 1994 the opel astra went from being a normel key to a chipped key ,astra was europes equivilent of the cavalier and i have one thats how i know about the chipped key so assuming its a GM product then no doubt the ECU would be the same in all production regardless of where ?? .Now with the battery being disconnected this could cause it to have the immobiliser cut in ,it shouldnt but it can .Now you will read a current to the coil and the sensor but it will have the earth interupted so it will never start .put the old computer back on and try the spare key ?? if it still will not start then i think a breakdown truck to dealers to have it the key reprogrammed

Try a hot wire to the distributor. If the engine keeps running then the problem may lie with the ignition circuit wiring. It also might be the ceramic resistor.
