Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

3 Answers

I have a 2000 nissan maxima and, after going to an auto parts store, was told that the code for the "service engine soon" lite being on is p0430. the person told me that it could be a multitude of things, anywhere from bad rings to a pcv valve or of course the more obvious, cat converter or rear o2 sensor. without spending alot of money on guesswork, is there anybody out there that knows what the most likely problem could be?

"DTC P0420, P0430 THREE WAY CATALYST FUNCTION"

This code can be logged if a bad quality fuel,

the nissan daignosis procedure goes...

1. check the exhaust system for leaks, damage etc. this will give the sensor a bad reading
2. check for intake air leak, would be a hissing sound between air flow meter and engine throttle, maybe a loose hose, the intake tube can come loose in the middle.
3. check ignition timing, this should not change, if it did there would be more codes than this. bad quality fuel can also cause incorrect timing
4. check spark plugs, are due to be replaced at every 100,000km.

after that there is a lot of wiring tests, one of these 4 things would be most likley. reccommend try fuel from a different station first.
hope this helps

Check the resistance, with an ohm meter set on x10 scale, from body to engine then negative terminal on battery to body. It should read zero ohms. if not run ground straps from engine to body and from negative post of battery to body. Make sure all connection points are clean metal. If this does not help then these two codes are the real deal and the cat. assembly needs to be replaced. I found very good prices at Eastern Center Catalytic. Free shipping, out the door for $306.76. Either do it yourself or find a friend to replace it. Taking it to someone cost many $$$. However I have run into several Maximas with high resistance. Tying these points together may solve a variety of faults.

The service engine soon light of nissan maxima 1998

The warning light is on because the computer found a problem that will affect engine performance and emissions.
You would need to get the computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed. Most auto parts stores will scan for free.

My nissan maxima 2000 model shows SERVICE ENGINE SOON on the speedometer screen, after servicing the engine it still shows that message on the screen, what do i do

you need to scan it with a scanner. you have a emision issue, such as oxygen sensor or evap system leak, or cat failure, or ignition problem such as coils beeing bad. scan it with a scanner and let me know what the codes are and we will take it from there. I have a 2000 maxima my self with 216000 on it and it runs like swiss watch. there are some common issue with those, but you need toget the code out of the ECM ( computer ) to get an idea. Your local auto parts store may be able to help you with scanning for codes for free. I know some do. just call them and ask. the worst they will say is NO its not free and thats it. good luck and let me know what codes you have.

Have the trouble codes read and they will tell you what is wrong and needs to be fixed on your car. Most larger auto parts store will scan the codes for free and give you a printout of what's wrong.

Hi:
Did the shops ever tell you what code was tripping the engine lite, or did they change anything? If you are not sure, go to a local auto parts store and have them scan the code for free. They should tell you what the best guess problem is...

Nissan maxima 05 service engine light is on. How do I check what the code is / are?

There are many emission sensors in the car that will make the engine light come ON. Not to mention the big list of trouble codes for the engine light.

Best way to find out what's going on engine light is to have an auto-parts store hook up a engine code reader and tell you what the code means and the problem. Most auto-part store will do this for free.

What causes a car not accelerate properly

I know common issues for the the 2000 Maximawas the Mass Air Flow sensor and the coils. I think both of them triggered a Service Engine Soon light.

My 2002 Maxima has had no issues yet (only 70k miles, unlike the 180k on the 2000).
