If the check engine light is on you should get the computer checked for trouble codes. There may not be much you can do on your own without a mechanic taking a look at it.

The most common reason would be excessive fuel in the exhaust, from a leaking injector or other problem.

My 1995 nissan trk back fired and blew my muffler and stopped running. What could that be?

the only time i have seen this is when the exhaust is blocked or weak. back fire would not normally do this. replace the muffler as you say. and check that the timing lines are in the right place. have you had engine management light come on at any time while driving. if time ok and engine has no lumps while driving then it would just be the muffler fault.

What would make it back fire loud, like guns going off and then so loud it blew out my muffler ?

timing issue, (timing belt or chain) fuel being ignited in the exhaust pipes not the cylinders

I was pulling out of my drive way and i put my sun-fire into drive and hit the gas and it sounded like something blew i drove down my hill and it progressively got louder, by the time i stopped the car it...

Quite honestly, seek out a trusted muffler repair shop nearest you. They may have to replace if it is too rusted ($100-$150?) or with any luck they can weld it back into place ($25). Not dangerous (unless it falls off) but definately annoying!!

2001 VW JETTA SPUTTERING AND BACK FIREING WONT GO OVER 10MPH

First check all wires for any thing loose.
The muffler blowing up leads me to think the engine is so far out of time the PCM cant correct it.

REally you need to get it to a good mechanic.

Engine Back fired, blew out muffler.

Sounds like you may have gotten some debris in your exhaust pipe or something was clogging your muffler. Maybe the innerds of you Catalytic Coverter went and got stuck or the innerds of your muffler gave out. That would be the only few things I could think of to cause something like that.

Sincerely,

JC

How does it run when it's cold?
A bad crankshaft sensor could be the culprit.

Terrible Front End noise

Good Day,
It would make sense that it is suspension related as it does not make noise at idle but going down the road it does. I would lean towards it being a bad wheel bearing. Does it sound like it's coming from one side or the other? Also how many miles on the car? Does it get louder when the wheels are turning?

You can check the bearing easily by jacking up that wheel and moving it side to side and up down checking for play, a little bit of play is normal.

Hope this helps and Good Luck
