Question about 1995 Dodge Ram 2500

Open Question

Injector pump 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 slt 5.9 cumins turbo diesel - I heard a loud snap from inside the house when my wife attempted to start the truck. The shop here says if its the injector pump that snapped then they will need to go into the engine to retrieve the lower half. Due to the amount of mileage (418K) they feel this will lead to oil leaks and performance issues overall. they recommend scrap. If the diagnosis is correct, is the change out of the injector pump that difficult on my diesel? Could it be anything else besides the injector pump? the engine cranks just fine and the fuel cutoff valve is working.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge ram 3500 cummings turbo diesel will not start.

Diesel engines fire on compression alone (usually 400psi).The Truck may have air trapped in the fuel system. When you perform any fuel system repair on a diesel it is going to take alot of cranking to get the air out. You can take the breather loose and shoot a VERY small amount of starter fluid in the intake and it should start. Do not use starting fluid much as it can damage the engine. Good Luck.

I need a fuel injector pump for an 03 dodge ram 2500 cummings diesel. i dont know how to find the part number so i can search for the part

Call any Dodge RAM dealer parts dept and they can give you the part number, have the VIN of the truck ready if they ask which they most likely will. The other source is my trusted online Auto Parts supplier, here is a link (at bottom of paragraph) they carry rebuilt pumps, call them if you are not sure which one you need. The pump are serviced by the VIN number of the truck so once again have it handy. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,2003,ram+2500+pickup,5.9l+l6+diesel+turbocharged,1413470,fuel/air,diesel+fuel+injector+pump,6013

Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.

1995 Dodge Ram pickup starting problem

Well, it does sound like the fuel pump. Could be the fuel filter. If you want to learn mechanicing, I would suggest first buying a repair manual -- this is full of all kinds of information you could absorb.

P.S.
I don't think it's clogged injector lines -- there are multiple lines and they would not likely all clog at the same time -- they run to the cylinders.

Getting turbo off a 2001 dodge ram 2500 series to replace it

The tuff part is getting to the nuts that clamp the exhaust housing to the exhaust manifold. You may need to modify (heat up and bend) some wrenches to get them all off. Be sure to prime the new turbo before running it.

to dogy2003: 1995 Dodge Ram 2500's with Cummins Turbo Diesel do not have glow plugs

I agree with kious75, you need to get the air out of the injector lines. Has the truck ran AT ALL since the installation of the injector pump?

What type of additive did you put in the trucks fuel tank?

Have you replaced the fuel filter recently? Check the filter canister to see if fuel has been pumped in to it. (one way to check is to open the water/fuel seperator valve on the bottom of the fuel filter canister and see if there is any fuel or water in there)

I had a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 24V Cummins ISB engine and had trouble getting it to start. Had NO luck bleeding the injector lines. My truck was a 5-speed so I got it on dry level ground and had a friend pull me with his truck, I popped the clutch in 3rd gear and the truck cranked up beautifully. It is similar to the process you would go thru if you had an old 5-speed vehicle with a dead battery. The engine and fuel delivery system on my truck and your truck are different but similar. My problem was a bad "lift pump" which was about $150 to fix, but caused a $1500 injector pump failure. I was nervous about pull starting my truck but it worked... the truck always cranked up after that.
