Question about 1993 Ford F250

1 Answer

Well still cant figure out the problem..... had it tuned up, you know with all new stuff even the fuel filter, took it to the ford dealership here and their computer came up with nothing! The check engine light was on. The darn thing ran fine for 3 days after the tune up, but when I 1st crank it up early in the morning(when its cool) outside, it runs bad, want idle, smokes of fuel not being burned, and now it even backfired a little going down the road until it warms up. But on the hwy it runs great, put it in park and it will die, and smoke. The dealership said it had to be electrical, anyone ever had this problem? I guess it is some sensor...... I hate replacing ones that are good, the dealership said they could check them one by one, and it might take a week to find it ,at $75 an hour....I don't think so ..haha !!

I got autolite plugs from autozone, I think I found the solution.... I read somewher to reset the computer, by taking off the neg cable to the battery for 10 seconds, and I did and I can't beleave it but it is running fine now and no check engine lite!! Why couldn't the ford place have done that?

Though about replacing the map sensor or idle air control valve about 65$ each, ouch.

Probably a crank angle sensor, maybe a throttle position sensor, but those usually throw codes out. Could just be a bad computer, too.

My Escort is sputtering at interstate speeds but stops at lower speeds. Also sputters more going up hill. Is this the a tune up issue..ie spark plugs or dirty fuel filter or should I just replace both....

Well,at 180K it's going to need some work.i would start with a tune-up (spark plugs, wires, fuel and air filters. Maybe a bottle of Techron injector cleaner in the fuel tank. See how it runs,,,,go from there. I always say,"do the easy stuff first"

1986 Ford LTD 5.0 engine; Failed HC emissions. Did tune up, new air filter, oil change. 2 bottles of HEAT and 1 bottle of Guarantee to pass. HC came back 2.90 passing is 2.50. What could it be.

Heat is pretty much methanol...it will counteract the effects of the other additive you used. Run that stuff out of there and try using 3oz of acetone per 10 gals of fuel and possibly adding a couple of degrees more advance to the timing. If you know anyone with a gas analyzer, perhaps they can help you get it set up.

Hesitation on gas pedal

Get the fuel pressure checked. Also replace the fuel filter if not done yet. Clean the throttle body with carb cleaner. I don't know exactly what they tuned up or whatever but the fuel filter should've been part of it. Write back if you need more.

If all this stuff hasn't been done before, it's not a bad idea to get it done. It'll have to be dealt with sooner or later.
