If it was starter car won't start, if it was alternator battery would die, I would say your fuel pump is cutting out not giving correct amount of fuel but it could also be throttle intake and something as small as throttle position sensor

SOURCE: 1995 ford contour has new battery and won't turn over at all

From what you have said, should be the alternator. Have it tested,
unless you have a multimeter. Then you can get the car started and run it over idle and check the battery for the voltage, 13.5v-14.5v
means that the alt is throwing a charge, and that something is draining
the battery, which would need diagnostic test.

Did you clean the battery terminals with baking soda and a little
water when you put on the new battery, this helps keep the best
contact between the battery and cables.

SOURCE: The car starts and runs real good, has 127k miles.

May have a worn out transmission
range selector or switch

That would be on the transaxle,
most likely

You use drive and reverse a lot,
so it would be a possible.

The switch is open at times, and you
can not start the car or stalls

Car won't start

old post , no year car, 1989 to 2002
there are 3 engines, 2 up to 1998. all made by toyota
overheating is it,
forget all else. FIND reason for overheating, coolant lost top list.
if loosing coolant that is #1 above all else. find cause.
but
overheating KILLS all ENgines. if not cured fast.
warps heads
is it pinging? that too kills engines.
your engine should never overheat unless it has cooling problems or.

unless the head is warped now, it will overheat, due to coolant loss
is it loosing coolant every hour or day?
CRANKING ALL ENGINES THAT DONT START DRAINS ALL BATTERIES, IT'S NOT a SYMPTOM IT'S NORMAL FOR NOSTARTS. (starter sucks 100 amps from battery every try)

id do a compression test first.
look for coolant in these spots
1: pavement below car.
2: passenger foot wells. (heat core leaks)
3: low radiator at neck cold show no coolant seen there.
4: in the a/t transmission, turns AFT to chocolate milk.
5: water in the engine oil pan, and or the reverse.
oil in the radiator, or side tank.
do all you can to not overheat any engine, and keep the repair bill like 1/3 or less. of BOOM

My car has an oil leak

Its a very long process to change. Fixya limits your posts to 10,000 letters or less, my version of the procedure is well over 25,000 letters long, so you might want to purchase a repair manual from your local autoparts store, or have a shop do the job for you. The info your got is probably correct, as these do spring leaks, and your car is 13 years old.

I have what I consider a strange problem. I have blow back on my air intake from time to time. My car is a 1991 BMW 750iL 12 cylinder. The car has been in storage for about 5 years. Ran great before...

Valve stuck open from time to time
Lets keep in mind your talking a 1991
sitting for a few years or not.
Do a cylinder leak down test.
What was the reason the mechanic gave you ?

Car cuts off when put into drive without warming it up

It's a common problem with older cars, especially the brand you have. Constantly change the motor oil, and warming it up can cause the life span to be longer. You also may want to get a new battery, which is often less then $100.

Alternater trouble Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2003

I have had the exact problem. I've changed altenator 3 times also and it has the same leak, but I've changed altenator an batterys over 2 year span. It just happend to me today after not driving it for 5 months. It's been in storage while I was away. Drive it fine for 2 days but today the radio kept shutting off and finally the car died right in the middle of the road. Bought a new battery because I had a warranty on last battery, but bought it just to get it home and in the driveway. Did you ever find out what was wrong with it?

1998Mitsubishi Diamante keeps stalling when you stop

I have a 1997 Diamante has the same symptoms after the battery went flat. The automatic transmission serviceman said it was the computer controlling the transmission loosing it's program and had to re-train itself. He said there was a procedure for defaulting the computer but is was easier just to drive the car and it would fix itself.
My experience after owning the car for a number of years and several flat batteries is it fixes itself after about 1000 kilometers
