Question about 1995 Saab 900
Chances are the clutch cable is damaged. Follow the clutch cable back to the firewall, you are going to have to remove the fuse box that sits on the driver side. You should be able to see the clutch cable insulation. If there is any damage to the insulation replace the cable. This cable has an automatic tension system for proper clutch pedal clearance. On my 97 900se I replaced the clutch after having the same symptoms. It was only after I read on another forum to check the clutch cable that i saw the damage and original problem. Also look at the shift linkage on the transmission side. Saab or GM made a really bad choice of fabricating the shift linkage out of plastic. Check that for damage as well.

Pull up the leather shifter boot (it's attached with an elastic cord around the base, so just tug upward on it)
look for a little white plastic extension attached to the shifter at the base. This is what locks the car into reverse once the key is removed.
From use/wear, this will sometimes rotate and drop down on the shaft and prevent the sifter from going in any gear.
