I do not know if you have fixed the problem yet. But sounds like your battery is dead. you probably dont have enough voltage to turn the starter. check the battery volts should be 12v or at least 11.8. when it is running with alternator it should be 13v

Sounds like you need to test battery. If the battery is good, find the fusable link (if there is one) in the battery cable. Also verify your ignition isn'tr shorting out.

SOURCE: 2003 dodge caravan won't start

My 2003 dodge caravan would not start after driving about 1/2 hour. I stopped for coffee and when got back in to start it started I switched gears and it stalled. I tried to start again switched gears then it started but only for 2 sec. No clicking, no cranking sound just would not start but battery functions were great. Spent 2 days with a mechanic who could not resolve so sent to Dodge. After a day of putting wires back and checking out the problem they said it was the computer. Said that it was bad and could be replaced at no charge due to malfunction. Yes, it worked fine afterwards no more problems. They also said that some of the computers are found to be defective like this one so I hope this helps you in the right choice to have the dealer check it out if you are unable to get a computer reading and there is no obvious short in the system. Free sounded very good but as you know there is no such thing as really free as they got me for other things $350 worth. ouch!

My car starter motor does not turn over.

Hi.

If you do not have any power at all, and the dash is not turning on, then check the battery connections, and the connection from battery ground to the engine body.
Also ensure you have tested the battery. Read the voltage across the positive battery terminal and a ground connection on the engine body. It must be around 12.5V
If there is no problem in there , then the problem is the ignition cylinder. The ignition cylinder can be tested reading voltages at its contacts. This in case there is no power at all.

If instead the dash is turning on, but the starter motor does not turn over, then there may be more reasons for the fault.

To start, look for the starter fuse. This is a large fuse, probably a 30 Amps. Look also for a5 or 10 Amp fuse to the ECU/PCM (main car computer module. If any of this fuses has blown, it can cut power to the starter motor.

After testing the fuses, check the starter relay. This is usually located in the fusepanel under the hood, or under the dash. The relay must click when the key is turned. The relay can be tested in fullusing a Volt meter or an Ohm meter.
The starter relay can also be tested swapping it with a relay of the same kind.

Fuses and starter relay are the most common failure when the car dash comes on, but the car does not start.
If this test good, ensure that the anti theft system is not armed (starter should still turn over by the way).

If fuses and relay are good, read volts at starter motor, while machineis cranking. You will need to use Voltmeter on the contacts at theback of the starter motor solenoid. If there are 12 Volts at startermotor, but motor does not turn over, then starter motor or startersolenoid is faulty.

The starter solenoid can be tested using an Ohmmeter at its contact. Ifthe solenoid is bad, reading with multimeter set on impedance, it willhave no continuity (it will read infinite Ohms).

If there is no volt, or volt is much below 12 Volts, then the problemis either the ignition switch located in the steering column, or aproblem concerning wiring from ignition.

The ignition switch can be tested jumping its contact, reading Volts orOhms on its terminals. To access the switch it is necessary to takeapart the steering column.

2006 Scion TC only turns on when reader is connected.

you can't always tell by gauging the battery.. it sounds to me like you need to charge that battery... notice i said charge not jump because you can cause computer problems by jumping newer vehicles.. just hook the charger cables up according to your vehicle manual and just let it charge a while before trying to start it. that's the direction i would go . if you are not comfortable with doing this yourself call AAA auto service (it's a cheap service and nice to have) AND if you have a friend who has it, they can usually get it done free so long as they are physically with the car when the guys show up ..

I am out of ideas. Car won't start when I turn key to start

If your saying starter motor won't crank the engine, check out the wiring diagram and fuses--fusible links. Make sure battery has a full charge. I looked at info for 05 scion tc.

Take it to a shop. U fu--ed up royally doing the swap. If you had done the job correctly you would not be having this problem. Decent thing to do at this juncture is help your buddy pay for the correct repairs.

Won't crank won't start

There are two starter relays in this vehicle. One is in the fuse box, the other right on the starter. Pull the fuse box starter relay. Check for battery voltage on two of the cavities in the socket when you turn the key to the START position. If you see that, then check for ground on one of the other two cavities. If you see all those readings, try swapping the starter relay with another one of the same size and type.

Tilt the steering wheel down all the way and see if it starts, if it does then there is a main power wire loose in the steering columb. Thats all which comes to my mind at this time.
