SOURCE: Run out of fuel, rolled

Oh, oh! Hopefully it is the fuse in the fuse box for the fuel pump. Worse: fuel pump--very expensive for some cars--but if you can get a used one out of a wrecked car--( Salvage yard)with NOT A LOT OF MILES ON IT--it will be much cheaper. Most, if not all are located in the fuel tank--which is another expense to remove tank & install the new one. good luck.

SOURCE: I am having difficulty removing fuel pump lock

Hi, the only tools I have ever used are a hammer and screwdriver. Hold the screwdriver tangential to the ring on one of the tangs and hit it. It takes quite a few licks, but you eventually get there.

SOURCE: car cuts off while driving or won't start

I would check the fuel relay first on this. Common symptom for that.

Check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Go to OReilly's and rent a fuel pressure gauge. There is a port on the fuel rail that you will be able to hook the gauge to. Turn your key forward and the fuel pump pressurizes the fuel system. While you are at the parts store ask them what the fuel pressure should be and compare with your results.

How to hind out if fuel pump is working

easiest way is to use a fuel pressure gauge that will connect to the fuel rail and read the pressure coming from the pump. You will need to know the spec pressure for your car. Follow the instructions for connecting a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail. Careful to clean up any expelled fuel on the engine. Turn the key to the on position and wait for the pump to build pressure, normally about 2 seconds, and read the gauge. Compare the gauge reading to the specs and determine if the pump is delivering the required pressure. You can rent a fuel pressure gauge from many automotive parts stores if you don't have one.

1999 4.3l will crank but not start

1. Can you hear your fuel pump running for a few seconds right after you turn the key on? If you DO hear the pump cycling for about 5-10 seconds then proceed to #2 below, if you DO NOT hear the pump running, check your fuses and relays that pertain to the fuel pump itself. (There's usually a diagram on the lid of the fuse/relay panel.)
2. Have you checked for fuel pressure? This is a fuel injected motor, on the top of the motor there will be a little green cap on a black either plastic or metal line. If you unscrew that green cap you will see a little valve that looks like what you would see on a car tire (valve stem) This is the test port for testing fuel pressure. I would recommend going to a local auto parts store and renting a fuel pressure tester. There's usually no fee in renting the tool, just a deposit that you will get back when you bring the tool back. Also, ask the parts store guy what the pressures should be for your car. Every make and model varies, normal pressures should be 40-60 psi. The parts guy you see will know more details about what the exact pressure should be and they will explain how to hook up their tester. (testers can vary by brand). If you're not getting adequate pressure you might want to consider replacing your fuel pump.

2000 astro van wont start

It may be a fuel pump to know for sure you would rent a tester to test fuel rail pressure after installing the gauge you turn the key on then off after 2 seconds look at the pressure should be 40 to 50 psi and should hold to 20 psi for one minute, if it does not hold the check valve in the pump is bad allowing the fuel to drain back into the tank. Shucks and AutoZone will rent the tool to you then give you your money back as long as you don't damage the tool and buy parts from them, also replace fuel sock at the same time.

Car starts dont run

Go to autozone, there you can rent their tool to check the pressure of your FPR. Then you should be able to connect that tool to your cars fuel line. Which will tell you the pressure.

This could and very well may be your fuel pump. Fuel pressure regulators dont go out too often.

Polo 1.4 cutting out every 30 seconds

Do you hear the fuel pump cut off? Once your pump reaches pressure it should cut off. Also you can try and remove your fuel cap and see if the car will run just know it could cause your check engine light to come on so do not run it very long. If it continues to run with fuel cap off I would say it is your fuel pump. Good luck with that and the best thing to do is get a fuel pressure gadge and see what kind of fuel pressure you are running. I know there are some parts houses that will loan or rent you tools. Good luck.

My 2000 lincoln ls starts then shuts down. Please Help?

Many cars have a safety feature that shuts off the fuel pump when the engine stops running. It bypasses this feature when you first start. This is all done by comoputer and sensor, most likly the sensor is bad but a check at a repair shop with the computer diagnotic tool will confirm. Advance auto parts will sometimes plug this tool in and deterrmine what the problem is for you and sell you the part to repair. Maybe see if they will rent it to you. They rent other tools

Good luck
