How to fix reverse problem.

1990 Buick Lesabre 6 cylinder. Reverse problem. Not yet able to fix transmission. Not sure why reverse quit on me. After I got the car I could put it in reverse and drive backwards fine. Then few weeks later I put it in reverse and tires wouldn't move. Give car gas and nothing but engine reving. I recently checked fluid and it is getting little blackish. I can't afford a rebuild or replace. Not sure why my reverse went out.

It sounds like you need a rebuild. blackish fluid indicates clutch failure.

Testimonial: "It is a automatic no clutch. Only problem is reverse. Drives fine. Not putting all the money for a overpriced mechanic to fix it. I had a car with no reverse before for over a year. I can deal with it. Thank you for advice."

SOURCE: 1990 Buick Lesabre no reverse.

This sounds like an internal problem .. possibly a broken hub on the clutch pack Standard GM L460 problem..call a couple of trans shops in your area and ask their assessment and price a rebuild.

1999 Buick LeSabre. The car makes a soft grinding noise only when the car is moving in reverse. The under-carriage is getting quite rusty. Sometimes I smell gas.

Sound to me you might have a small gas leak or your exhausts.sounds to me like it could be transmission is going out.

Bought a 1990 Buick lesabre When I shift into reverse it knocks real hard when connecting Shakes the whole car Every other gear hooks up great

Try some Lucas in the transmission fluid. It can help minor problems sometimes, otherwise time to either head to the junkyard for another transmission or the shop to get it rebuilt.
