Rev hunting when cold

I have just bought a 2003 C200 Kompressor, when I start the car from cold the tick over is a bit rough and if I put it in reverse or drive the engine hunts badly making it impossible to get out of a roadside parking space safely. After 30 to 40 seconds or so its fine and the engine runs smoothly. Mercedes garage says they cant find anything and there are no malfunctions showing in the computer system. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? It seems to be like a choke / mixture problem but only for a very short time. HELP.

Thankyou, Pardon my ignorance but what are pcv and IAC valves? where would I look under the bonet? Just a bit more detail, when the car has run for 30 secs the revs rise slightly then go back down to 800rpm and the engine runs smoothly, before this it does rev at 800rpm but sounds a bit like a bag of nuts being shaken. If I try and drive off when rough its as if the mixture is rich then lean then rich then lean, as I say for about 30secs. Is it likely to be an engine management computer problem?.

Change the pcv valve.check the IAC valve and clean the throttle body with cleaner and make sure the butterfly is free moving.check all the vacuum hoses and all hoses are tight fitting, even the one on the air filter assembly.a small leak can throw off the air flow meter.
check all the plugs are tight.

My sister has one of these. It has a supercharger. When started, the computer system takes a bit to get the fuel injectors and other settings ironed out. It takes a few seconds longer than the larger (non-super charged) engine or Benz turbo to get right. A lot of gizmos on this car.
By the way, it's always a good idea to give any car a minute to get it's fluids flowing and sensors working the proper settings.

My cousin has a 2001 Mercedes c200 kompressor 2.0l petrol ! It went in for service and also had new plugs and coil packs fitted ! It seems to start and run fine when cold , but once it hot it runs rough...

Hi Burt, I would suggest the fitting of a replacement air flow sensor and maybe also the fuel pump. Have a diagnostic evaluation carried out first, but keep in mind that the pump output isn't recorded and sometimes the airflow does not show up as defective when it is. regards John

Hi There we just bought a C200 Kompressor and it doesnt play CDs - it gives a CDS Error , can you advice ?

Hi, My guess is that you have the wrong type of CD. Try another CD.
Some CD players will not play MP3's or others like that.
Thats why you are getting error code.

I wish to adjust the idle tickover speed a wee bit on a 2007 Ford Transit 2.2 Duratorq engine. It is currenlty ticking over at approx 800 rpm and is hunting at this rev. If I could raise it a wee as I do...

First ensure that the throttle interior is really clean, a surface layer of grime can upset the ECU's ability to meter and govern the air entering the engine. If the throttle body interior is found to be really oily and dirty check on the idle air control valve and make sure that it too is cleaned up. Next put the ignition switch in position 2 (on, but no start) and depress the accelerator fully and release. If there is an issue with the throttle position sensor this procedure can help the ECU relocate the throttle plate position. Start the engine and if it is still hunting locate the air mass meter (AMM) on the air ducting immediately next to the air filter and disconnect the electrical connection. Does this remove the hunting aspect?... the rev speed might change but for the moment concentrate on the evenness of the tick-over. If the idle is even when the AMM is disconnected but hunts when connected then look at replacing your AMM. Try spraying the AMM with no residue electrical cleaning spray to see if this improves matters.

My 2003 mercedes kompressor C200 key is not working!

the key's are special order and they are fairly expensive. Test the voltage in your remote batteries. They should be 3 volts. These systems are very voltage senstive and require a good battery to operate properly. I'm assuming you have the original batteries in the remote now and it is 6 plus years old. These batteries generally last 3 years so it is definatly time if you have not replaced them yet!
