How do i replace a ignition lock cylinder on a 1999 Pontiac Grand prix if the key won't turn
You have to locate the hole directly under the key cylinder on the steering column. There is a key locking mechanism with a release button which can be accessed by getting a long screwdriver up that hole to depress the cylinder lock button. This will allow you to remove the key. I have the same problem in my 2000 Grand Prix GTP. The problem lies in the Ignition Switch Wiring Harness which would have to be replaced. I haven't had the money or the will to do the repair so I just depress that button after I turn the car off. The car shuts down but still needs one more click to get to the OFF position where I can then take the key out. Good Luck and I hope this works for you until you can fix the ignition switch wiring harness.
Not really a job for a non-mechanic. Column covers off, switches out of the way, wiring disconnected, column dropped down under the dash, bolts chiseled out, big job.

I have 07 Pontiac Grand Prix, the wrong key was inserted into the ignition the other day. Now when I try to use the correct key it will not insert completly in the ignition, goes in until last 1/4in of key. Im stuck, I bought the new lock cylinder but how do I get the old one out? I cant get the key to insert all the way so I cant get it to the "On" position, it will not turn at all. The key that was inserted in error is whole and nothing is missing it seems like there is something stuck. Any help would be appreciated...
