The car is on its second engine. The one with cracked heads lasted only 15 months, making me reluctant to pay for another replacement engine. My mechanic thinks its time ti sell it fr scrap and lok for an older sed car with low miles (like from an older person who has given up driving). I wondered if anyone had luck trying to repair cracked heads on this type of engine. Thanks

Yes, unfortunately it sounds like you have a blown head gasket. You can check your oil dipstick to see if there is any water in the oil and also check your coolant to see if there is any oil in the coolant. If so then you have a blown head gasket. The problem can only be resolved by having the heads machined and replacing the gaskets.
Please rate me and let me know if this helped.

Previous to 2000 Ford had a cylinder head gasket problem with some of the v6 engines failing at two cylinders at opposite corners of engine (don't know what engineyou have) They supposedly corrected that, but I'm not sure how well the correction worked. I doubt if the cylinder head is cracked but if some amount of compression is getting into cooling system it's possible that it may give you strange sensor readings. When testing, it's also possible that some air escaped and returned everything to "normal" ('till it builds up again).
At this point, I would get a second opinion on this. As well as a comprehensive computer scan, have someone do a radiator hydrocarbon test...that will reveal any compression in cooling system from gasket or any other source. (Don't mention that it was checked before, just say what originally happened so objective testing will be done.)

check to see if cooling fans are working. if not replace fans or fan sensor. check oil. if there is coolant in the oil, you may have a cracked head or a defective head gasket.

Acheep way to find out is had some power punch to the oil buy a quart for 6 bucks drain a quart of oil and put it in it the light does not xome on then it's fixed. if it still comes on check the pressuere sending unit it could be defective to.
