Question about 1996 Dodge Stratus

I have a no start situation. Fuel preasure is there but no spark. The code reader shows no codes and the coil tested out fine with the resistances from primary and the secondary. Timing belt is fine I even made sure it didn't skip a tooth on me. Is there anything else the computer doesn't monitor that can be checked?

Check to see if your car has an ignition resistor. Chryslers are infamous for this part failure with no indication other then no start. They are usually mounted on the firewall.

Can you tell me if your car has a distributor .I live in New Zealand and therefore unfamiliar with your engine lay out .
I wont suggest it would be related to Coil , But If you Car has an igniter I would check that also .
I have had a few of these fail and not trip a fault code on the computer .
Cheers
George

If plug an plug wire has been replaced , an dist. cap an rotor an problem is still there ,maybe a fuel injector problem .
Perform the fuel injector coil test. Refer to Fuel Injector Solenoid Coil Test .
A fuel injector coil winding resistance that is too high or too low will affect engine drivability. A fuel injector control circuit DTC may not set, but a misfire may be apparent. The fuel injector coil windings are affected by temperature. The resistance of the fuel injector coil windings will increase as the temperature of the fuel injector increases.
Diagnostic Aids
?€¢
Monitoring the misfire current counters, or misfire graph, may help to isolate the fuel injector that is causing the condition.

?€¢
Operating the vehicle over a wide temperature range may help isolate the fuel injector that is causing the condition.

?€¢
Perform the fuel injector coil test within the conditions of the customer's concern. A fuel injector condition may only be apparent at a certain temperature, or under certain conditions.

  1. Disconnect the multi-way harness connector of the fuel injectors.
  2. Measure the resistance of each fuel injector between the ignition 1 circuit and the fuel injector control circuit, at the multi-way connector with a DMM. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.
Is the resistance within the specified range for each injector?
11-14 ohms

  3. Record each fuel injector resistance value.
  4. Subtract the lowest resistance value from the highest resistance value.
Is the difference equal to, or less than, the specified value?

Engine won't start....no codes showing....tested for spark at plugs....no spark....what is the cause

if no spark then i would start with the ignition/coil module , but as are one per plug i would look for a loose connection as rare for all to go at once , did you use a ford specific OBD reader as most generic readers may not read fords , very unusual to have no codes so i would make sure with a ford specific reader, have included a utube vid that might be of help, same engine as your mazda

You have not run a OBD2 electronic engione control fault code test, get a code reader and do that first and don't replace anymore parts until that is done and you have the fault codes and have done the proper diagnostics for each code.

How to tell which of the 8 coils on a 1998 Pontiac trans-am ws-6 is bad?

This may help in some cases... At night turn all the lights off, wait a bit for your eyes to ajust to darkness, start the engine and look at your coils. Bad one will have a blue sparking inside. This solution does not work in all the cases though. But it is fast and easy. If you can't find a bad one like this then try to measure resistance of the primary for each coil because it could be a burned primary.

When driving 65 or above car loses power, turn off ignition and restart runs fine for a couple of miles then same thing. Runs great around town (car is not getting hot)

I would first scan computer to see if there are any stored codes, as these codes can help in pin pointing problem, i would start by checking fuel preasure but this has to be done when power loss starts, if preasure is good then i would check for a bad ignition coil, you may need to replace to test this one.

Car chugs while accelerating. changed spark plugs and wires, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel pump could this be a bad coil pack

Yes it could , try having the computer scanned for any codes and see if theres a misfire code, if it where a coil there should be a misfire code with the cylinder thats missing then you will know which coil it is, also the fuelpump is pushing enogh preasure? low preasure would cause this also. try the codes first, autozone parts store scans for free. hope this helps.

It want start but several coil packs on it and it

If there is no spark,it could be the crankshaft ensor,or the ignition module, under the coil.

My Honda Accord will crank but it wont start

check for spark at the spark plug wire, if theres no spark then id say the distrubutor is no good, replace disturbutor and car should run, also if coil is sperate from dist, then try a coil first, if its in dist, then replace complete unit. if you have spark at the plug then check for fuel preasure. hope this helps.

Okay, thanks for reply earlier...here's more info...maybe you can help

the valve cover seals like to leak and fill up the spark plug tubes with oil. so 1st thing, you should pull the spark plug boots to check, the pull and inspect the spark plugs.

next.
pull spark plug boot off of the #1 spark plug. Insert a new spark plug into the spark plug boot. Ground the plug to the engine.
Crank the engine and look for spark across the electrodes of the spark plug.

then reconnect the boot the the #1 plug, pull the boot off of the #2 plug repeat the test, then do #3 and #4.

if all cylinders have no spark/ weak spark, its most likely a bad coil pack.

to check the coil pack:
Measure the primary resistance of each coil. At the coil, connect an ohmmeter between the B+ pin and the pin corresponding to the cylinders in question. Resistance should be 0.45 - 0.65 ohm.

----------------------------------
Measure the secondary resistance of the coil between the towers of each individual coil. Secondary resistance should be
11k - 14k ohms
