Get a good charge in the battery by charging it, not just jumping it. Then try it. Maybe the battery is no good.

1998 massey 1250 diesel tractor has a new battery but will not turn over. When you turn the key everything go off and does not turn the starter

Question ,was it running before this happened

If so ,try and turn the crank shaft ,if it turns then the problem is either a battery cable , check connections at battery and starter and also the ground .

If this fails , take a pair of jumper cables hook to battery with out battery cables hooked up .

Then hook ground from jumper cables to frame and positive to large stud on starter solinoid , take screw driver touch large post of starter to small post on starter solenoid if it just clicks or does nothing replace starter.

Be very careful these are large amperage's your working with ,and can be dangerous ! if not comfortable with this method then just take starter out and have it tested in town.

1997 Pontiac Grand Am Gt has been sitting for almost a yearo to a wreck. It's been started couple times during this time frame. How ever. It's not longer fully starting. It will kinda try to and then die...

You probablly need to charge the battery, if you dont have battery charger you can take battery out and most autopart stores will charge and test it for free... before you do all that, add a little fresh gas, hook jumper cables up and spray a little starter fluid in air intake.

Trucks been rolled , now won't crank

Try this.
Take a positive battery jumper cable and hook it directly to the big lug terminal on the starter solenoid that the cable hooks to from the battery.
Take the negative jumper cable and hook it to a good steel, iron, or aluminum ground connection right by the starter, on the motor.
Now try the key to start it.
If it still says nothing, I'm thinking you have some wire harnesses unhooked from the rollover.
Someone really good could take a little jumper wire and connect the tiny terminal on the starter solenoid (which goes to the key switch), to the positive battery cable, and that should make the starter work, hopefully.
If it cranks with this direct application of power to the starter, be sure and check the "ground straps" between the motor and the frame. I think there are about 3 or 4.
Some may have snapped.
Be blessed.

IF STARTER RELAY BAD THE STARTER WONT MAKE NO NOISE AT ALL HEADLIGHTS WONT DIM.IF YOU CLICKING NOISE BATTERY VOLTAGE TOO LOW. MAKE SURE BATTERY VOLTS ARE 12.6 VOLTS AND USE TEST LIGHT TO SEE IF STARTER GETTING POWER.COULD HAVE BLOWED IGNITION FUSE OR FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. TO CHECK STARTER SOLENOID FIRST TURN OFF RADIO THEN REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE AND POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE.THEN REMOVE STARTER BUY A REMOTE SWITCH.YOU NEED BATTERY JUMPER CABLES HOOK BATTERY JUMPER CABLES TO BATTERY PUT POSITIVE CABLE ON POSITIVE BATTERY POST THEN PUT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE ON NEGATIVE POST. HOOK BATTERY CABLES TO STARTER USE NEGATIVE CABLE GROUND STARTER BODY AND PUT POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE ON THE LARGE POSITIVE POST ON STARTER SOLENOID. NOW TAKE REMOTE SWITCH HOOK RED WIRE TO STARTER SOLENOID POSITIVE POST THEN HOOK BLACK WIRE TO REMOTE SWITCH TO STARTER SOLENOID SWITCH TERMINAL WITH LETTER S THEN PRESS REMOTE IF STARTER SPINS STRONG WITH A GOOD KICK STARTER GOOD.YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE CORRODED WORN BATTERY CABLES. WEAK BATTERY FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. IF STARTER DONT WORK WHEN YOU PRESS THE REMOTE SWITCH STARTER SOLNOID BAD OR STARTER ITSELF BAD.IF ALL IS GOOD. CODE SCAN CAR FOR THEFT SECURITY FAULT CODE.

Truck will not start how can i tell if its a starter or selonoid

does it spin real fast without clanging and grinding against the flywheel? if so then its probably the solenoid bad. do you have to hit the starter with a hammer then it works? it is probably bad brushes or a worn motor. eather way i think you can only get a new starter and solenoid together not sold seperate. check for bad battery cables (loose).

1998 bmw 528i battery died. How can I unlock the

I am not familiar with this car, but most with electric locks can be unlocked the old fashioned way by placing the key in the lock and turning. Barring that, call for a wrecker or locksmith to open the car, or somehow get power to the electrical system to power the locks. If the hood is open, or openable from the outside, just use jumper cables to apply power. Perhaps you could get to the starter feed cable (or even the batter feed) from underneath the car. I hope this gives you some idea that is helpful in resolving your problem.

It makes a clicking noise when I try to start my Jeep

Hi Tanner,

That clicking sound is what your starter solenoid sounds like when powered by a weak battery.

It should start with a jump.

The real questions are: How did it get weak? Will it recover?

Instead of performing a bunch of tests, why don't we take the path of least resistance. Get someone else to do them.

After you get it running, go to an auto parts store. They love to perform free tests in the hope that you will buy something. If it less than 15 minutes away, drive around a bit to let it recharge.

Ask if they can run a 'Load Test' on your battery. A load test is a voltage test with a twist. It simulates the load put on your battery by a starter turning over an engine.

There are an unambiguous Pass or Fail.

Pass means the battery is good.
Fail means your battery can't hold a charge and needs to be replaced.

What luck!! You're at an auto parts store. ;)

Best regards,
Mike

1999 Pontiac Sunfire won't even turn over, but the

The radio will work even with a dying or discharged battery.

First, be sure to check all of your fuses in the engine compartment.

A full battery will keep the headlights bright with the engine off. With a dying or discharged battery, the headlights will be noticeably dim.

When you turn the key to crank the engine, does the starter try to turn or make a fast clicking? If so, the battery if low or dying. If it makes a slow click then stops, then it's REALLY dying.

If you don't have a battery charger, go to Walmart and get some jumper cables. Hook up a friend's car to yours. If it starts, then the battery was low, either from a bad battery or a bad alternator.

If it doesn't, you have electrical problems, possibly a bad starter or starter solenoid.
