Question about 1997 Toyota Tercel

Woodpecker-like noise when I try to start the car...

I have a '97 Toyota Tercel, manual transmission. It wouldn't start when I turned the key, so I charged it with the jumper cables. When I tried starting it with the cables still on it made a woodpecker-like sound, but would not start. When the cables were disconnected, even after charging the battery for 10 minutes, the car did absolutely nothing. I'm not sure if its the battery, the starter, the cylanoid(I don't know how to spell that) or what. Do you have any idea?

if the solenoid is making that sound, does it mean that it needs to be replaced?

Try cleaning the connections on the battery. Take them off and clean them with a special post cleaner from the car parts store. Put them back on, charge the battery and try it. The battery may be no good also.

I put in another engine on my Toyota Tercel but it wouldn't started if I put gas in the carb it turn and run for a little while then turn of help I believe it the fuel pump.

Your right, it's the fuel pump. It's not pumping gas into your carb. Hope this helps, James Booth. Also, check the fuel pump fuse before you go into all that work and money to see if its no good. PLEASE RATE THIS!! :))
