Question about 1998 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

1998 3.0 Taurus dies at any speed, after restart runs fine till next incident. Possibly related to fuel pump and or battery dying after sitting appx. 3 days?. Put on computer at Auto Zone, Tech then said L2 L3,he then said it was running too lean used injector cleaner and octane booster. Added premium fuel Released and then reset tank pressure. Have a new fuel pump ready to go in, but two computer tests all agreed it was not the fuel pump. Checked all ground wires Still no help, check engine light shining. No Ford dealer locally. Really need a suggestion on what to try next.

1998 k1500 5.7 vortex dies after it warms up suddenly

Holding the gas pedal to the floor stops fuel entering the injectors.
You would need to figure out if it is fuel or spark to proceed.

Not knowing when but while driving it will die and can not restart un till letting sit for a couple hours or so then it runs fine untill happening again

Sound like the gas pump. (It work for couple minutes get warm and stop working)
-Test the fuel pump in ohm. It's within the specification or not.
If not Replace it. If it's good. Next step you need to check the injector relay. (It might quite working when it's warm)

My 98 Taurus seems to be running out of gas then just dies. Have to have the battery jumped to get restarted. Its fine for awhile then does the same thing a few weeks later. Battery and alternator have...

The most likely cause is your fuel filter. You can check the fuel pressure and by opening up the fuel line under the hood and using a fuel pressure. Or you can just replace the fuel filter.

You will first need to depressurize your fuel line. Open your hood and look in the fuse box near your battery for the fuel pump relay. Remove that relay and turn on engine til it dies.

Now you can replace the fuel filter. Wear goggle. The fuel filter is located underneath the car near the back passenger wheel about 1 inch inside. It will be cylinrical looking with an arrow and connected to fuel lines at both ends. Unclip the clips from the fuel lines and unclamp the fuel filter from the body of the car. You can use a screwdriver to remove the clips. Don't damage the fuel lines in the process. Now wiggle or turn the fuel filter out and replace with new one with arrows in the same direction. Thanks for using Fixya.

1998 4-Runner 3.4L 4X4 dies while driving

Hello;
Check your fuel pressure. Sounds like the pump is going away on you. Also change your fuel filter. Fuel pump is in the tank, filter is on the frame rail. Hope this helps; rate me highly.
Thanks;

Runs fine at startup, after warming up it dies at low speed 5-10

Fuel pump? That is odd, it seems there is no issue with getting fuel. I would check the idle and the choke settings. Try tweaking those a bit.
