Assuming the spitting happens when the tank is NOT full, almost always it is caused by a blockage of some kind. Either the fill hose is kinked, or someone has stuck something down the filler tube. Check for blockage. One way to check, is to get about 4 feet of large (1/2" ?) clear plastic tubing and run it down the filler. Before you go too far past the neck opening, be sure you will be able to pull it out without getting stuck. Have a screw driver handy to release the trap door if necessary. You should be able to stuff at least two feet down. Though it is possible some filler hoses have a wire spiral trap device to keep things from getting into the tank, like siphon hoses, etc.

SOURCE: remove fuel pump from tank ford windstar 98

To gain access to the fuel pump, it is necessary to remove the fuel tank.

  1. Depressurize the fuel system and remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  2. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump module attaching flange, to prevent it from entering the tank during service.
  3. Turn the fuel pump module locking ring counterclockwise using a locking ring removal tool or a brass drift and remove the locking ring.
  4. Remove the fuel pump module.
  5. Remove the seal gasket and discard it.

To install:
  1. Put a light coating of grease on a new seal ring to hold it in place during assembly. Install it in fuel tank ring groove.
  2. Insert the fuel pump module into the fuel tank, then secure it in place with the locking ring. Tighten the ring until secure.
  3. Install the tank in the vehicle.
  4. Install a minimum of 10 gallons of fuel and check for leaks.
  5. Install a pressure gauge on the throttle body valve and turn the ignition ON for 3 seconds. Turn the key OFF , then repeat the key cycle five to ten times until the pressure gauge shows at least 30 psi.
  6. Check for fuel leaks at the fittings.
  7. Remove the pressure gauge.
  8. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

What causes my van to keep stalling

Have you changed the fuel filter? Possibly restricted. Check engine light on? Scan for codes that may pertain to this issue. Possible throttle position sensor or throttle actuator.

2003 Windstars only came with 3.8L engines
I believe you are looking for fuse #5 and relay #207

2003 kia Sorento gas keeps spitting back out when I try to fuel up

There's usually a flap on the fill tube below the gas cap. Try to put the pump handle past the flap, and slowly pull the pump handle to fill the tank.

I had fuel pump and filter replaced when the car would not start. I have a slight smell of gas inside the car when driving. What could be the cause? 2003 Ford windstar.

The only thing that is going to cause a gas smell inside the car while driving is a fuel leak. You need to get the vehicle up on a lift and inspect the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the fuel rails on the engine. This may or may not be related to the repairs you had done. - It depends on where the leak is...

Two items to check, first would be a the fuel filter, second the electric fuel pump, I have had this exact problem on one of these in the past, it is also possible that catalytic converter could be stopped up. The best thing to do is get an autoparts store to retrieve your codes and that will help in diagnosing the problem, good luck!

Ford Windstar 2001 Gas filling problem

The fule tank vent tube is blocked/clogged. It's the little hole next to the filler hose that invites spiders that clog it up. Blow out the tube and it fixes the problem.
