My fan control only works on low setting. but on low setting its on high none of the others work??????????

    ive already the fan resister tested and dealer said it looked fine what about the control its self?

My ac is not working I have a Chevy Tahoe 2005 the fans won't turn on either .


Hi Maria , The A/C system wouldn't keep the fans from running but none working cooling fans will keep the A/C from working ! This is a fairly complex system if your not familiar with this sort of thing ! I will add the description from the factory service manual.
Cooling Fan Control - Two Fan System
The engine cooling fan system consists of 2 electrical cooling fans and 3 fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the powertrain control module (PCM) to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage from the underhood fuse block.
During low speed operation, the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the low speed fan relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and supplies battery positive voltage from the low fan fuse through the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the left cooling fan. The ground path for the left cooling fan is through the cooling fan s/p relay and the right cooling fan. The result is a series circuit with both fans running at low speed.
During high speed operation the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. After a 3 second delay, the PCM supplies a ground path for the high speed fan relay and the cooling fan s/p relay through the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the cooling fan s/p relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and provides a ground path for the left cooling fan. At the same time the high speed fan relay coil is energized closing the relay contacts and provides battery positive voltage from the high fan fuse on the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the right cooling fan. During high speed fan operation, both engine cooling fans have there own ground path. The result is a parallel circuit with both fans running at high speed.
Do you have a check engine light lit ? The thing to do would have it check at the dealer or a ASE certified repair facility ! They could hook up a advanced scan tool an diagnose fairly quick ! Or you could find a wiring diagram an try testing with a volt meter yourself ! But watch yourself so you don't short out the PCM - engine computer !

Why does heat-air fan only work on high


Can you tell that the fan is getting higher or lower? Or is there no response from the fan control until you get to the high position?

If you blower fan will only work on high know that most blower motors are power by a basic electrical circuit that utilizes a multi resistor or a solid-state resistor to control different fan speed modes (low, medium low, medium and high). If the resistor malfunctions it may lose one or more of the lower fan speed settings. First check the fuse and change if needed. If that doesn't fix things change the resister.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1992 chevy C1500: Heat works on low speed, no medium, and high only works intermittantly.


On any other vehicle it sounds like the blower fan switch.
The fan switch provides power or ground to the resistor and there would be a high speed blower relay to bypass the resistor.
But in your case the fan switch is part of the controller.
I don't have a diagram for a 92 but the 94 model shows relays for low medium and high speeds. Each relay gets power from a fuseable link. The high relay gets power thru the low relay if the low relay is not engaged.
If you have the model with 3 relays you may need to check them.

Have two codes 1490 and 1489 what are they and how do i fix them


It's most likely low speed fan control relay circuit trouble.
There are separate relays and control circuits for high and low speed for the fans. This way if one messes up the other one should still work. Relays are in relay/fuse block under the hood. There is a diagram under the relay box cover that shows the function of each relay. The relays just plug in.

1489 = High Speed Fan CTRL Relay Circuit - An open or shorted condition detected in the control
circuit of the high speed radiator fan control relay.

1490 = Low Speed Fan CTRL Relay Circuit - An open or shorted condition detected in control circuit of
the low speed radiator fan control relay.

Either the relays are gone or the connector isn't plugged in, probably the connector if both the low and high circuit is out.

Fan for Ac and heater does not work on 2000 T & C van. It only works on low or high. All other settings are the same as low


replace the resister module for the fan,this is what controls the speeds,and most of the time the blower motor is what causes the module to go out,

Ac controls quit working blower fan is running on high all thetime. compressor is not working.


fan elays are under hood in black box by battery. 3 of them. 2 for high speed, 1 for low speed. Default is high speed when there is a probem.

Suspect maybe they shorted something out when fixing dent. Did they do any welding on the van? Connecting the cables to the body can sometimes send voltage where it's not wanted.
