A starter on any vehicle is placed next to the bell tranny and clutch.. don't confuse the starter with the solenoid which sits right above it.. if you have trouble finding it jus follow red wire from the battery straight to it

1994 pontiac sunbird starter removal. I have to take the car apart to put a STARTER in????!!!

You shouldn't have to. Jack the front end up. the starter should be at the bottom of the engine towards the front of the car. Follow the battery cable from the battery to the starter. Generally there are 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter in place. Disconnect the battery before working on the car, then undo those bolts. Use one hand to hold the starter. When all bolts are off, pull the starter off.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

The starter went out on my 93 pontiac sunburd

Hi Tiff..

First thing i'm going to say is get a Haynes manual for your model.

It will show you (or the person of your choice )should you not decide to have it taken to a garage, exactly how to uninstall and re-install the starter.

Being the car is a '93 i would go with a re-built starter as opposed to new, and would suggest even than you purchase a used one from a reliable wrecking yard.

They test them there and usually put a bit of warranty on their parts.
(30-90 days)

Wishing you success...

The starter may be the problem. This is very common for starters. The solenoid is effected by heat when it's going bad.
