Question about 2000 Chevrolet Astro

Engine cranking is having problems.

Here's another head scratcher..
What would cause my engine to not crank easily? I feel something is putting a strain on the engine from inside. I've tried turning the crank manually using the pulley bolt and it won't turn. I've tried a strap wrench on the balancer and it still won't turn. The only way I can get the engine to move is to crank it normally with the starter. However, it turns slowly and starts to smoke if I try it too long. The starter was checked at AutoZone to be just fine. I bought a new battery and nothing changes. I have fresh oil in the pan after having to replace it due to a coolant leak - which is why I'm working on the car now. Wouldn't everything get lubricated internally after a multiple cranking sessions? Oh, I did remove all spark plugs at one point and it spun easier, but I still couldn't crank it by hand or by using the strap wrench. What could be causing such a drain on the engine while cranking?

If engine has been cranking a lot & not actually running, there's a real good chance cylinders are dry. Also, I need to ask where coolant was/is leaking as you may be experiencing some hydraulicing in cylinders due to coolant leaking in, but I hope if that was the cause of your coolant loss/leak, that it has been remedied. Another possibility would be plugged exhaust causing too much back pressure.

Sounds like main bearings
if you can remove oil pan and grab piston rods one at a time and try to rattle them around look for metal shavings in bottom of pan

Your assumption would be probable! Sounds like the cooling system is being pressurised from the engine which is normally caused by blown head gasket! Is the water mixing with the oil?

Cutlass ciera wont start

Does the starter spin the motor at normal cranking speed? If there seems too much friction, try turning the engine over by hand to check if the engine turns freely. Put a socket and wrench on the center crankshaft pulley bolt and turn clockwise. If you cannot turn the crankshaft with a wrench easily, then the starter can't either. Turn the crank all the way around to check for something preventing cranking.
Is the battery still enough power to crank at normal speed? If it's already too low, recharge it, and try again.

Car not starting turn key nothing happens has power

Pull all the spark plugs out and make sure the engine still spins freely. Put a socket on the crank pulley bolt and turn the engine a couple of revolutions. With the plugs out, it should turn quite easily. If not, something may have seized from overheating.
If the engine turns easily, but the starter won't work, check all battery connections for being clean and tight, also the starter connections. If still nothing, have the starter tested. Any chance any of your wiring got burned or scorched from the overheated engine? You might want to check the wiring harness around where all the smoke was coming from.
Good luck. If you get the engine cranking, and still won't start, begin checking for spark at the spark plugs.

Chevy cobalt cranks but wont run above 10 mph

I doubt the security system would cause the problem.
Most systems prevent the starter from working as well as the fuel pump or injectors.
And once the starter cranks the engine it should not be involved.

Do you have spark?Just because you have the code doesnt mean its the solution, check you spark remeber the crank sensor signal is at the transmission and the cam is at the cylinder head,is the flywheel broken? is the cam and crank synchronized?check for spark take one plug wire out and leave a 1/4 air gap from sparkwire to spark plug when you crank it should have spark if you have spark do you get fuel injector pulse when you put you finger on the injector you should be able to feel it

If you can easily turn over a 6.5L engine by hand, then I wouldn't suspect an engine mechanical issue. They do need an excessive amount of amperage to crank, I would agree the starter is weak if you have replaced both batteries.

2001 Kia Sportage won't crank.

It sounds like the timing was set incorrectly when the head/head gasket was replaced. The engine won't turn over very well if the Valves are smashing the Piston Heads. I would suggest trying to turn over the engine yourself while it is in neutral. Just connect a socket to the harmonic balancer, and use a big cheater pipe. If you can feel something stopping the engine from turning, then the timing was set incorrectly.

In need an immediate answer if someone can help.

If the transmission is functioning properly, and always has been, it couldn't possibly cause damage to the engine. It's impossible to lay blame on the mechanic, or the parts supplier, until it is disassembled again.
If you want this nightmare over with, go to an auto wrecker, and get another engine. There are plenty of low mileage engines out there, and no rebuilt is ever as good as a new or factory one. If you can get some of your money back from all this, spend it on a used one. Hey... you drive on used parts every day.
