Sometimes there is a dead spot on the starter's commutator where the brushes contact inside the starter or it is a bad solenoid

Slow cranking in the mornings or after sitting a period of time. It's a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel. original batteries

I would have the batteries tested at your local Sears or auto parts store. 6 year old batteries on a diesel motor is probably about at their life expectancy. If it's bad now, it will get worse in the colder weather. Probably need to replace them. Good luck.

Diesel engines like yours are ultra high compression, so they are hell on starters huge amp load to spin engine, make sure the battery has the max cold cranking amps availiable, have your battery tested and verify it's cranking amp capacity,I would use the original equipment battery from Dodge, they are rated as one of best along with Delco from GM.
