Make sure u have enough antifreeze (coolant ) in the resovoir and bleed all the air out of system. do this by;letting engine run till good and warm no t over hot, then stop engine (make sure resovoir is full or a little over full)leave for about 35 to 40 minutes and see if coollant level has droped(it should this is normal) refill and repeat proscess over and over untill the coolant level stops ,u will notice it will take longer and longer for engine to warm up this is also normal then start engine and watch temp ,so it dont over heat, wait for fans to come on if they dont try a coolnt sensor and repeat this over again/thermastat is also some thing u can change(may be when u change coolant sensor/check fan relays and fuses before proceeding with all these remidies

Temp. guage indicates overheat 10 mins. from startup

Hi Reggie, I'm glad to help. TWO things I want you to check. ONE: You have changed out a lot of stuff, so you may have air trapped in the cooling system, you'll need to remove the radiator cap and let it run until your at operating temperture, while watching to make sure it doesn't overheat on your of-course. If after running the engine say 30 minutes and topping off the coolant if needed, it still runs hot. Move on to: TWO: If you have the electric fan, some do, some don't. If it is electric make sure the fan is coming on, if it doesn't come on then you have found your problem, replace the fan assembly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Reggie!

My temperature guage stays in the middle, is this ok?

Yes, the temperature gauge should normally stop in the middle, between the cold and hot points on the gauge. When the engine is cold the thermostat will be closed and will keep recirculating the coolant in the engine block until it warms up sufficiently. Then the temperature of the warm coolant will cause the thermostat to open the channel to the radiator to get rid of excess heat, which should stop the coolant from over heating. So the effect of the thermostat keeps the coolant at a fairly stable temperature. When the coolant runs low, it can't transfer enough heat to the radiator and the coolant and engine then over heats. Watch for radiator leaks under your car after you have been driving it. If the coolant goes low again fairly quickly you could have a leak in a hose or the radiator itself.

2002 ford escape temp guage says normal water will blow out of the degas bottle when engine reaches temp had to replace radiator trans cooler was leaking into radiator also replaced thermostat

Blown radiator hose? Might have blown a head gasket right there, which would continually send hot bubbles into the cooling system and degas bottle. If you see bubbles continually,it's a head gasket probably.
Might be the degas cap not releasing at 16 psi or your cooling system has air in it, OR your cooling fan is not actuating. Many things.
Also I have gotten 3 out of 5 bad thermostats from aftermarket stores. Get a Motorcraft thermostat. Did you replace with a NEW radiator?

In my 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 the water doesn't stay in my radiator. I changed the radiator and thermostat. My temperature gauge keeps going up and down and I have no idea what it can be. Have any id

You are going to have to find where the leak is first before looking at the temp guage problem. I would pressure test the cooling system and look for leaks. check the heater core...make sure thats not leaking. make sure the engine oil and transmission fluids are not over full and milky. Good Luck

Hi,
A/C increases Engine Temp in two ways.
1, extra 2-6hp load on engine.
2, hot condenser in front of radiator heating air going through cooling system.

A small difference in engine temp can be expected, but if the car is running hot get it sorted out.

1997 Honda Accord temp guage goes up and down. It goes up when when idling @ a traffic light. It rises in between the half way mark and the H. When I accelerate it goes below the half between the C. What...

If it is not an instrumentation problem then you have to assume the coolant is heat cycling. It could be because the cooling fans are not coming on due to the temperature switch, fans or relay. This would explain why the temperature increases when you are stopped and decreases when you are accelerating and air is moving over the radiator.

Temperture guage goes from 180 to 260 and bounces back and forth. The service engine soon stays on constant. The check guage light goes on and off when the temperture goes red line.

The check engine light is operating correctly as the computer reads a spike in temperature range in the engine. Your problem is more than likely a bad thermostat. I have seen times when a bad or loose radiator cap would cause the same symptoms. If the radiator cap has been removed recently it could be that it is just not on correctly. Make sure you check this only when your engine is cold. Hope this helps you out

Thermostat will need to be replaced. I recommend draining a quart of anitfreeze by loosening the petcock on bottom of radiator. Then re-tightening. Then follow upper radiator hose, it will lead right to thermostat housing. It should have about 3 screws/bolts on it to remove. The thermostat is underneath.

Temp gauge running hot

check the coolant of the radiator if it "eats" up a lot of it... there could be leaks on the radiator, its cap and the hoses or the fluid is not that enough. Check also the water reserve beside the radiator if the water decreases as you drive. If it does not go down then the water circulation is not that good. There could be a leak. If there is no leaks then you should check out the fan of the radiator if it is working.

Auxiallry fans on radiator dont seem to come on. how do they work

Hi, They are controled by a thermo-fan switch, when coolant reaches a certain temperture fan switch turns on radiator fans and brings temperture back down. Thermo-Fan switch is located bottom of radiator.
