Question about 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

My 1998 Chevy Malibu stalled out while driving on the freeway. The oil and battery lights came on and all power was lost. I pulled over and was able to re-start without trouble. 2 miles later, it stalled out again. I re-started and made it home. All fluids are full, battery and alternator are new. What could be wrong?

Check crank or cam sensor. a bad crank sensor will cause car to shut off while driving downroad. then will restart after 10 minutes. a bad cam sensor will cause simillar symtoms. but these should set a code. get car scanned for codes. if you do not have a scanner. you can go to any auto parts store and they will scan it for free of charge.

I have a 1998 Buick Century. Yesterday while driving the car's oil light would turn-on when I stopped at a stop sign and when I accelerated the oil light turned-off. I pulled into a gas station and...

The oil light coming on when stopped at a stop sign tells me your engine was already damaged before you had the power loss problem. I would not waste the 650 to put in an oil pump. You would be further ahead to just replace the engine.

U may have a blown head gasket to check this first after engine is cool open cap to radiator or overflow container and 1 see if it is low and 2 check to see if there is any oil in coolant if yure not suryou will need a compression tester u can aquier at ant auto parts store after u get a tester take the coil wire off at either end that is the spark plug wire that doesnt go to a spark plug usually the shortest one next pull the wire from a spark plug take the spark plug out screw in or hold firmly the tester while a friend turn over the engine with the the key good luck truobleshooting

Malibu keeps stalling after i start it up.

Check to see if it still has spark after it stalls...if it does spray starter fluid into the air intake and see if it will keep running as long as you give it starter fluid. If it does...you have a fuel problem, pump, filter, regulator.

2000 Chevy Malibu, I have to crank it several times before it will start. The engine has also stalled on me a couple of times while driving. It has 140,000 miles. Regular oil changes. Battery is good....

Can you hear the fuel pump hum for a couple of seconds when you turn key to ON? Seems like a possible fuel starvation issue. If fuel pump hums, the filter may need replacing.

I have a 2000 chevy malibu, battery light came on

check your serpentine belt it sounds like it may have stretched or broken. Without the belt working properly your car will overheat due to the waterpump not activating and neither will the power steering or alternator

Chevy Malibu Check Battery Light

the problem with my malibu was the plug going to the alternator. i went to the junk yard and cut a plug end off the wiring harness and replaced it on mine and it's been working fine. i don't know why it drains the battery with the broken wire in the plug, but it did. i found the problem by wiggleing the wire while my wife watched the dash for the battery light to go out. ken!
