Why is my ignition switch sticking?

You could try graphite in the cylinder, but it is a common problem on older Fords, usually resulting in changing the lock cylinder,

Need to change the ignition switch

Remove panel under steering wheel. Put key in cylinder and turn back to accessory position. Looking under lower part of steering column locate a small pin under the key cylinder. While depressing the pin turn the key backwards and pull the entire cylinder with key out of column. Good luck.

Ignition switch 1994 ranger

If it were me, I'd take the Vin # down to the Dealer and get a key made(and take back the ignition you bought). As far as I know without the original key to allow the release pin to depress, the only possible chance might be to try another Ford key and it may release the ignition basket. Or call a locksmith and he can make a key for probably $50. **Or (ha ha) I could make a copy of my '94 Ranger key and send you a copy ! :>)
