My car is a 1999 Subaru Outback Station wagon. We

My car is a 1999 Subaru Outback Station wagon. We had the rear struts replaced last summer. Just recently the car is make a grinding sound on sharp turns. When I go to park the car or pull a u-turn it is difficult to make that sharp turn and the grinding sound is very prevalent. Any ideas???

Two things you must address, first the tires may need rotating, 4WD cars need all tires to be close to the same size or conflicts in gearing occur, second change the oil in the rear axle this can cause noisy operation.

Under the arch at the top of the spring the plate that sits against the car body is in the rong place it needs to be turned to stop the top mount from hitting the car body.i had the same problem on my impreza!!!the grinding sound came at about 40mph.so i turned the top mount clock wise so there was a gap between the top mount and the inner arch/wing no more problem.

Is there an access pannel under the rear seat of 1999 subaru legacy outback to access the top side fuel tank?


Yes, under the rear seat bottom on a sedan or behind the rear seat back on the panel under the carpet on the cargo area, right behind the seat back, screws hold the panel on, fuel pump right below it, easy to replace...I just did mine,1998 Legacy Wagon.

Need to remove cargo panels to get to the top of the rear struts


the is a plastic panel is held on with a screw behind a plastic pug, pull the plug undo the screw/bolt and remove upper trim, then you should see the 3 bolts holding the top mount..

no u can replace one but if u by new u will get 2 in a box and its better to do both so there both good .and if u do one the other might go soon 2 and if u put one brand new in a the other still old you will feel the diffrence it will feel like ****
