Put the car in neutral, pump the gas 3 times, then put it back to park. That resets the oil gauge. let me know if that helps. Taking off battery will not help since the memory is still there even without power. Especially if it uses, cmos chips.( I wont get into that electronic stuff.) Most mechanic don't know stuff like that thats why i am one of the best mechanic here in houston.

Disconnect battery for 10 minutes. This should work. If by chance it doesn't it may need to be set by obd2 scanner

If you reset the oil life computer then the "Change Oil" due to a defective oil life computer, which is contained in the instrument cluster. Ignore the message or send it out fro repair (about $250.00).

Sometimes they just fail to reset properly. Nothing to worry about. The youtube video shows the procedure to reset for a Chevy Truck, should be the same for your Chevy car.

Here's a website with explanation.

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I CHECKED THE COOLANT TEMP GAUGE THE DIGITAL GAUGE READING WAS ONLY SHOWING THREE BROKEN LINES. I CHECKED COOLANT LEVEL WHICH WAS FINE. ENGINE DID...

I had this problem with a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. I changed the coolant sensor and even though the check engine light went out I still had a reading of "---" on the coolant gauge. The problem is most likely one of three things: a low coolant level, a bad coolant sensor, or the thermostat needs to be replaced. The only other possible thing it could be is a bad BCM (Body Control Module) which in that case you would most likely be having other weird problems.

The Thermostat and the sensor are both very easy to get to and replace. Take off the engine cover by removing the oil cap and they are both to the rear of the engine on the driver's side. They are right next to each other.

Hope this helps!
