2002 jeep cherokee transmission slips when air condition is on

you need to change the throttle position sensor. This is not a transmission slip so to speak but a flux in the throttle body. the part is easy to fix and on a V8 lies
right behind the resinator behind the throttle body. I had the same issue with my 02 GCL. Part costs 40 bucks

Where is the map sensor located on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee

Check this Jeep information about your engines...
3.7L -The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is mounted into the front of the intake manifold with 2 screws.
4.0L
- On the 4.0L six-cylinder engine the MAP sensor is mounted to the engine throttle body. On the 4.7L V-8 engine the MAP sensor is mounted to front of the intake manifold.
4.7L
- The MAP sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold. An O-ring seals the sensor to the intake manifold.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

The IAT on your Jeep should be located on the intake manifold, directly behind the throttle body. It will be a screw in sensor with a two wire plug.

Location of tps and map sensor on a 02 jeep grand cherokee 4.7l

Both are attached to the throttle body. Tps is on the other end of the throttle plate shaft opposite the linkage, MAP is on the side...has small vacuum hose underneath and is flat, about 3" long. The other item on the TB is the idle air motor, next to tps.

Where can I get a schematic for replacing a throttle sensor?

You don't need a diagram...It is held on by two small torx screws and has a "gang plug" attached so you can't mix up the wires. It is located right on the outside of the throttle body on one end of the throttle plate shaft. There is no adjustment either. Don't change it unless you have tested it first!

Tps , the throtle position sensor is causing my check engine light to show up. I just want to know where the throtle postion sensor is located.

Mounted on the throttle body. Try cleaning it before replacing. Follow the hose from your air filter box to the intake, the sensor will be right in that area where the hose connects to the intake throttle body. It should have a harness plug.

Tps is on one end of the throttle plate shaft on the throttle body housing. usually has 4 wires coming out of it. Test it first or you may be making a mistake, and wasting $. Have you done code check?
