Question about 2005 Scion xB

1 Answer

A/C alternates between hot and cold

A/c switching from icy cold to off , you can hear the compressor kickin in and out . just replaced compressor , dryer, expansion valve. I have checked fuses and wiring , still doing it at random. Sometimes it comes on and stays on for 30 - 45 min, other times just 5 mins then wont come back on. Also looked to see if it had freon through little window in line and you can see it moving. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance for help!!

I think you may a restriction in you a/c lines causing ice to build up and your freon won't circulate, and bad pressure switch could also cause this. Some other you might want to look at is your drive belt tension, cooler compressor assembly, condenser fan, A/C amplifier assembly, and your heater control accessory assembly, and your volume of refrigerant. Hopefully this helps.

1994 Nissan altima the compressor comes and the blower motor works and it's full of freon. But it's only blowing heat out of the vents. What could be the problem?

How do you know the freon is ok...........it could be a blend door in the dash that controls temp from hot to cold. Do you feel or hear a difference when you switch the temp from hot to cold?

Ac blowing hot. compressor is on and getting cold. cannot find heater control valve. 2001 mercury grand marquis.

i belive that year uses a blend door in the air box to change from hot to cold it should be electronic not cable operated if its a cable just follow the cable out of the switch and make sure its ot binding anywhere and that its connected at the air box.If its electronic take and listen under the dash while switching from hot to cold and see if you can hear it moving.if not check your fuses if all your fuses are fine you will have to located the actuator (which should be behind the dash pocket) and check to see if you have power and grounds if not go back to the switch and pull it out and make sure that is sending power out if its not sendind power out replace the switch if you have power and ground at the actuator it indicates a bad actuator motor

freon leak, check to see if compressor is kickin on, look under hood for a/c compressor. the front will move with the pulley if its working, ... if not working its low on freon or low pressure switch is bad,

did you burp the system after you where done. The heater d-core is the highest place in the cooling system and will be the first to collect an air pocket. Running the vehicle at idle with the cap off will help purge the air out.

The a/c will turn on any time the mode switch is on defrost. When the heat selector is turned to hot the air will first go through the a/c evaporator core and then through the heater core. When the heat selector is turned to cold air will only go through the evap core. So regardless if the a/c compressor is on or not with the heat selector on hot it should blow hot air.

Did the heat work before you replaced the other parts?

If not than it is possible that the heater core is plugged. Especially if the coolant was really dirty before you started.

More then likely need a recharge and checked for leaks, your car came with R12, which is not sold any more, you will have to retro fit to 134a freon, auto parts sell this kit, hope this was helpful.

You would have to measure the pressure to determine if it's pressurized correctly. The compressor won't run if it's low.
What happens when you push the a/c button? Can you hear/feel the compressor kick in? It seems like in most cases it's the compressor itself or the compressor clutch that goes. It's way too common in vw's...

A/C air sometimes cold, sometimes not on VW Beetle 2001 Turbo

AC will not work with temps are cold even when it is turned on. The air is colder cause the temp is colder. The AC cycles in hot weather because the AC charge is low and needs recharging. You will know this if you open the hood run the AC and you will hear the clicking sound of the AC compressor magnetic clutch. You can recharge it easily buy buying a compatible can of refrigerant. I suggest buying the kit with the gage so you don't overcharge the system which will cause freeze ups

A/C compressor clutch

First thing to ask your self is, When you ingauge the clutch does cold air come out the vents? If so Charge is likely sufficent, If air is cool but not cold likely charge is low & is the cause of compresser not kickin on the clutch. place a proper charge in the system but make sure you know how much to add in, what type of refridgerant it takes ( 134-a ), (R-12). Besure that you use no sealers & that no sealers or Propane was used potentel system damage & injury or Death could result as improper proceeding at this point.
If you do have cold air check the lowside pressure switch function. You do this by first locating the switch disconecting the pigtail & useing a proper jumper wire across the 2 pigtail (female) ends of the harness connector not the switch its self.
If compresser clutch ingauges & Cold air blows from the vents replace low side pressure switch if this does not work grab your wallet, the yellow pages & the phone. I strongly recommend takeing your vehical to a qualified repair facility or Tech.
I Truely hope that I have helped your problem & Knowlege I have given you was useful!
