Cat 3412 genset overheating problem

My cat seems to be overheating with only about 150kw on her. water pump seems to be good, themalstats are out of the houseing, rad fan is correct rpm. we were only gettin 4 degree drop across the rad so thought it was plugged had a spare clean one so i swamped it out with the other one. i have a bit more drop of 8 degrees but this still anit enough. and the coolant is mixed to 50/50. anyone have any thoughts? i only put down the gmc sierra cause i had to put somthing down. lol

The radiator cant do its job without thermostats in place i sudgest fixing that first then checking your hose routing carefuly to assure bleed hose or hoses are installed in thermostat housings and reservoir to engine feed hose is indeed on suction side of water pump if it isnt cavitation of water pump will result when engine is sped up also asure radiator bleed hoses are not obstructed. if no problem is found in thes areas a cloged oil cooler is likley due to rust debris cloging the tubes thru the cooler removal and visual inspection is easil done. clear tubes with a stright piese of coat hanger and power wash if replacement cost is of concern. i am a profesional engine rebuilder and build many cat engines each year and your problem is not uncommon.further more assure your radiator core is clean of dirt and oil as this will cause an engine to overheat quickly with no obvious cause. hope my words have led you in the right direction

On a 93 jeep Cherokee 4.0 if the catalyst converter is clog can it cause overheating?

First the dash gauge is not that accurate. Yes if you have excessive back pressure from the catalytic converter then the temperature can rise on the engine.

Overheating 97 Lincon Town car

Connie, Were the radiator, water pump and thermostat replaced to try and fix the over heat issue or as maintenance. Engine overheating can be caused by a lot of things, Leak in cooling system, air in system, bad rad. cap, slipping belt, faulty thermostat or installed upside down, faulty water pump, plugged radiator (inside/outside), collapsing rad hose, faulty cooling fan, leaking head gasket, sludge plugging engine water passages, poorly tuned engine, etc..
Take into a good shop for diagnoses and estimate for repair. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Engine heat may be thinning oil enough to drop pressure. Fix overheating first. Thermostat, bad cat converter or muffler, bad water pump, etc.

Will opening up the throttle going up hill for awhile cause my 1995 Toyota 4 runner to start bogging

How long are you going up the hill? It could be it is dumping to much fuel and overheating tha cat, or if it is overheating that with also cause your problem, or it be water in the fuel moving to one spot near the pick up on the pump, or if it is a automatic you could be overheating to transmission fluid.

COULD BE THERMOSTAT IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS NOT HOT AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOING TO WATER PUMP IS HOT THE THERMOSTAT STICKING PARTIALLY CLOSE.IF TOP HOSE IS HOT THE RADIATOR,ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING OUT.IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP, FAULTY WATER PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.REPLACE RADIATOR CAP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 / 50 MIX SOLUTION ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK ENGINE OIL ON DIP STICK, IF OIL IN DIP STICK LOOK LIKE MILKSHAKE YOU HAVE BLOWED HEAD GASKET THAT WILL CAUSE ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING CAR IN SHORT DISTANCE AND ENGINE OVERHEATING.

My 1995 Mercury Sable started overheating, and I thought it might be the thermostat. I replaced the thermostat and gasket, making sure to clean all of the old gasket from the housing and the head, I...

Is this the only place it leaks. These cars are notorious for head gasket & intake gasket leaks. Have the coolant system pressure tested for any other leaks. You also may have cracked the thermostat housing when the thermostat was not seated properly. Check the flow rate through the rad. The rad may be blocking up or the water pump impellor may be loose in the water pump. Hope this helps. Good luck!
