1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Driver Side Door Stuck

I have had the car for two years with no problems, until one day my driver side door started having problems closing all the way. Sometimes I would have to lock and unlock the door from the inside to even open it. As if the unlock side of the switch would not go down all of the way.

I sprayed WD40 into the door lock, closed the door, and now it seems to be locked permanently.

I tore the paneling off, and all of the internal lock mechanisms, seem to be working, but the door will not open.

I really need some help, because it is only a matter of time till my co-workers see me climbing through the passenger door in the morning. Anybody have the Jaws of Life?

I had pulled the paneling off prior to posting, but your comments pushed me to take a closer look. I needed to pull up on the rod as I push the unlock button.

I have fixed the problem by keeping it unlocked, but would love to someday lock my car again. Would you suggest re-bending the rod? It doesn't feel bent. It just doesn't reset the lock without help.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4 x 2, windows and door locks work on driver side, but not passenger side.

sounds like an open power or ground circuit on passenger side, since the door lock and the window, lost its functioning. Both switches would have to be bad at the same time, which is not probable, to be the fault. Unless there is a saftey lock out switch on the drivers panel, controling the passenger side door lock and window.

Check the wiring harness between the "A" pillar and drivers door. The harness usually breaks there.

Check the wiring between the drivers door and the A pillar(the body of the car). Sometimes the harness breaks from opening and closing the door.
