Question about 2002 Toyota Highlander

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander, the check engine light came on, I took it to AutoZone and they hooked it up to the machine. It states that it says it is a air heat seansor. What is this and how can I find out what the part is. The dealer wants $100 just to look at it

2002 toyota highlander 4 cylinder check engine light blinking

A blinking light, like a "service engine soon immediately" light?
The only way to know why the engine computer turned the light on is to plug in a scan tool at the diagnostic port, and then the fault code or codes will be displayed. The code will refer you or a tchnician to a specific system, part, or circuit that the computer has detected a fault in. It probably is the cause of your running rough condition, also.
Some parts stores (Autozone, and other national stores) offer free scan service to retrieve trouble codes. Be careful of buying new parts just because the trouble code refers to them. Most trouble codes need a little testing and further diagnosis to pin-point the problem.
You can post the codes here for help, or take them to youir mechanic.

2002 Toyota Highlander 2WD, 4 cylinder

Welcome to FixYa. I'll be glad to help you out.

Code P-1150 indicates an Air-Fuel sensor range/performance issue.

The air fuel sensor is similar to an oxygen sensor, but it does a different job.

Without in-depth analysis on a scan tool that can read the output of the A/F sensor, it is hard to tell you exactly what is happening, but prior experience indicates that you probably need to replace the A/F sensor.

You would do well to purchase a genuine Toyota A/F sensor, as the cheaper 'aftermarket' units do not perform well; your check engine light may remain on after you replace the sensor with an aftermarket

Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice.

I just had a few warning lights come on in my 08 Toyota Highlander base model. They were the malfunction indicator lamp, the vsc off, and the trac indicators.

Hello. Those three lights are all designed to illuminate when you have an issue with the electronic sensors on the engine. To properly identify the reason for the lights being on, you will need to get your vehicle hooked up to a scan-tool. AutoZone provides this service for free. Get the car scanned, and get the codes stored in the memory of the car's computer back to us for further assistance.
