Would a bad crankshaft positioning sensor cause a brand new alternator to stop charging a brand new battery?

crankshaft position sensor is not related to alternator. CPS is part of engine control while alternator is charging system.

The battery light on my 1998 ford contour intermittently comes on and off while i drive. bumps, runtime, and temp all seem to have no effect on when the light comes on and off. I just had my alternator...

Thats going to be a tough one. The light comes on when the alternator is not making enough voltage to charge the battery.
If the problem was not occuring before the alternator was replaced, it could be a faulty alternator or bad connection in the wiring.

I have a 2002 mustang and it is making a squeaking noise and the battery light comes on. Both happen intermittently but I haven't had any change in the battery gauge. Do I need a new alternator?

the sound is either the alternator belt (as in way too loose), or bad bearings in the alternator and it seizes up intermittently and the belt screeches as it slides on the pulley. your gauge is telling you the amount of voltage at the battery, but the light is a charge indicator and it is pointing you to the alternator.

2003 Ford Windstar----I had battery light, abs and brake light intermittantly coming on. Found that alternator was over charging and there was a bad wire overheating going from battery and fuse panel. ...

Hello, It could be what you said. But if you know the Voltage was too high, you may want to replace the Ignition Relay and the Fuel pump Relay. If the contact points are cooked, they could work intermittently and it would be difficult to test. A bump or a little overheating could cause the contact points to break loose and then work when they cool.

It is good that the "check lights" are off. I always tell my clients that the scans are free at Autozone, Oreillys, and Advance. Some things like Relays may not trigger a light.

Be careful with a Wiggle test, but you may find a short in the wiring by shaking the wiring under the hood. I doubt the Voltage Regulator is causing your current stalling problem. A fully charged Battery without a Regulator or an Alternator would provide an amount of reliable power until the Battery was drawn down.

I hope my Solution is very helpful.

Battery light is on intermittently. Battery is new.

If your vehicle has done over 120,000km then the alternator will need to be reconditioned shortly. The battery light coming on is an indicator that your alternator is not charging properly.
So you should get your vehicle to a good auto-electrician asap before your battery starts to go flat.

Battery drains when car is on. Verified it is not

Sure sounds like a bad alternator to me-how did you verify the alt is okay? It should be putting out around 13.5 volts. Let engine idle-remove positive battery cable-if engine dies immediately, it IS the alternator.

If the alternator only puts out about 12/13 volts, the car's voltage consumption could be exceeding that; hence, intermittent charge/battery light.

The battery has 12.6 volts. The battery/charge light will come on if your car's voltage requirements exceed that. (Alternator pulley not spinning fast enough?) Loose alternator belt slipping could also cause this symptom.

Alternators CAN go inoperative intermittently.

Hope this helps.

Why is my battery light is coming on.

Loose or intermittent connection at the battery, alternator, or other wire associated with the starting/charging system.
