Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Clutch or Transmission?

I just bought a 1985 nissan 300zx. When I bought it a couple weeks ago there was a whine (similar to the whine of reverse) upon accelerating and slowing down, when in gear. It turned fatal fast. There was really loud acceleration in all gears but 4th but it would jam a little going into 4th. I was stopped at a light when everything felt like it dropped. It wouldnt go anywhere in any gear because it felt like it was dropping the engine or something. The engine starts up fine but dies, even in nuetral, when I release the clutch pedal. I have heard conflicting opinions as the whether it is the clutch or something different. I would appreciate any educated opinion.

Whining noise is worn gears or low on transmission fluid. It after reading your post, sorry to say but you were low on transmission fluid and your transmission needs to be replaced. You gear box has seized and every time you release the clutch even in neutral will kill your engine. The transmission shaft may have seized on the bearings in the transmission case, regardless you need a new or rebuilt transmission. Good luck friend and sorry for the bad news. Keep me posted.

I have a 1989 300zx manual trans. Will not shift in to reverse what coud be the problem

Sounds like linkage from shift lever to transmission or the bushings on the linkage points. A "sloppy" shift lever with similar bushing problems may be the problem.

1985 nissan 300zx has start signal failure how do you repair the problem

Start signal comes from the clutch engagement switch. When you press the clutch the pedal arm hits a switch and signals the motor to be able to start. Look and see if you have a little rubber piece pushed through a hole on the clutch pedal arm

My 1987 Nissan 300ZX does not shift into reverse. All other gears work fine. I was told I would have to remove the transmission to fix the problem. Tell me if that is the correct solution to fixing the...

HI there unfortunately that is the correct solution
the reverser gear fork or reve gear syncros
are both inside trans housing
You should sand trans out and all the gear checked
and replaced not just reverse gear ok

Car is automatic will not engage in reverse

Common problem with EN471B is clutch bands failing. Same band for reverse and second gear. Any second gear problems? Possibly shifting directly from first to third? Drop transmission pan and check for bits of clutch band (non- metallic debris) to confirm.

300Zx will not shift out of 5th gear

is there any pedal pressure when you step on the clutch? I had a similiar problem with my 91 300zx was stuck in third gear, no pedal pressure on the clutch whatsoever....i had cracked the pivot ball and the clutch slave 'popped out'. i had to pull the trans to fx the problem because i could not reattach the clutch fork onto the release bearing with the trans in the need to bleed the system...gravity bleed the slave until there are no air bubbles. make sure you top off the clutch master cylinder in the process.....then bleed the clutch operating is in the passenger front hood near the power steering off the clutch master cylinder again. i hope this helps.

It sounds like your clutch master cylinder is not functioning correctly. First i would check the fluid level and then see if there is a leak.
