Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima
I just bought a 1985 nissan 300zx. When I bought it a couple weeks ago there was a whine (similar to the whine of reverse) upon accelerating and slowing down, when in gear. It turned fatal fast. There was really loud acceleration in all gears but 4th but it would jam a little going into 4th. I was stopped at a light when everything felt like it dropped. It wouldnt go anywhere in any gear because it felt like it was dropping the engine or something. The engine starts up fine but dies, even in nuetral, when I release the clutch pedal. I have heard conflicting opinions as the whether it is the clutch or something different. I would appreciate any educated opinion.
Whining noise is worn gears or low on transmission fluid. It after reading your post, sorry to say but you were low on transmission fluid and your transmission needs to be replaced. You gear box has seized and every time you release the clutch even in neutral will kill your engine. The transmission shaft may have seized on the bearings in the transmission case, regardless you need a new or rebuilt transmission. Good luck friend and sorry for the bad news. Keep me posted.
