Clutch pedal fully extended (up) and won't disengage clutch. Happened relatively suddenly.

Thin, ivory colored plastic rod extends through firewall and engages a socket on back side of clutch pedal when pedal is pushed most of the way to the floor. No other resistance to pedal travel until reaching the switch at the end. Can't disengage to shift out of neutral. Master cylinder fluid full. No hard mechanical connection visible.

The rod with the ball on the end that attaches to the clutch is your clutch master cyclinder. If it stuck you may only have to replace it if you're lucky

This may be two possible issues. If your transmission grinded in the past your transmission may have finally given up the ghost. Also your clutch disk may be broken or worn to the point where you can no longer shift. It seems like the latter your going to have to replace your clutch if your a big on doing it yourself a clutch kit is 400$ at autozone. It may be cheaper online good luck I hope this helps

SOURCE: I HAVE A 1999 SATURN SL PUT NEW CLUTCH IN AND A

Are you certain you or your mechanic installed the clutch plate facing the right direction? It is usually marked on one side to tell you which way to face it. I have personally done this and had the same issue, if the hub portion of the plate is rubbing on the flywheel it won't kick out or in all the way, and if left it can cause damage to the flywheel.

Good luck.

SOURCE: clutch wont disengage and i can push the car when

That burnt smell is what used to be your clutch disk, and you will need to replace the clutch before you will be able to drive that vehicle again. You should purchase a complete clutch kit for your vehicle, and it should come with a new pressure plate, clutch disk, throw-out/release bearing, a pilot bearing, and a clutch disk alignment tool, and be sure that the pilot bearing is replaced when that new clutch is installed.

SOURCE: I have a 02 Saturn and my clutch is giving me some

You have one of these two things going on....Either the clutch master cylinder is internally bypassing or the clutch itself has gone bad. If you can pump the clutch and sometimes be able to shift, the master is bad. If the clutch pedal feels normal, then I'd suspect the actual clutch disc is worn out.
Your clutch has little to do with shifting with the engine off as nothing is turning and engaging the gears is not a problem. Have an experienced tech take a look at it if in doubt ...should take all of five minutes to determine what's wrong.

SOURCE: My clutch seems to have

it could be either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder,it could also be the clutch pressure plate check the master & slave cylinders first because if it's the pressure plate the gear box will have to be removed to replace the pressure plate, even if you are uncertain it is most likely cheaper to replace the master & slave cylinders than it would be to replace the pressure plate.....hope this helps......cheers.

Replaced clutch mastercylinder clutch pedal is hard will not push down

Can you see the clutch slave cyl?
Is it extended fully?
Is this condition after you bled the system?
Try opening the bleeder on the slave cyl in case you have full pressure in the system right now. Also make sure the new master cyl rod from the clutch pedal allows the master cyl to return fully to it's retracted position or the pressure will build up an lock the pedal as yours is.
You want a little play in the clutch pedal rod to master cyl.

New clutch installed. No pedal, stays on floor unless I bring it back up with my hand. No resistance.

`Did it bleed, did fluid come out in a steady stream? Isn't there a spring to bring the pedal off the floor?
Check the linkage of the pedal to rod to the clutch master cylinder, make sure that is all together. Any chance the master has an internal leak and won't build hydraulic pressure down at the slave? If you get it bled, then watch the slave operation while someone works the clutch pedal. The piston on the slave should extend and push the clutch fork enough to disengage the clutch.

Recently replaced clutch kit flywheel hydraulic slave cylinder on a 97 Chevy s10 4.3. Once the clutch system has been bled the clutch pedal pops off clutch master cylinder when pedal is hard. Any...

Not sure if I understand your question. Sounds like the push rod from the clutch master cylinder is pushing the cylinder off the firewall. If that is the case it could be that your rod wasnt fully engage into your cylinder make the rod to long and with enough pressure is popping the clip off the fire wall

Car will not engauge into 1st or 2nd gear

the gear grinding noise is because the clutch plate is not fully disengaging and the input shaft is still driving. If you did not use the same length of push rod then the slave cylinder is not moving enough to disengage the clutch. Check it out that with the pedal on the floor the piston in the slave cylinder should be almost to the edge of the slave cylinder . That is where It should be to be working properly

Clutch not engaging

Well, it would shift easily with engine off, because the transmission input shaft is not turning. Engine running and clutch engaging good, the input shaft would again be stationary and allow smooth shifting.
What you have to determine is if the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad (a new clutch is needed), or if the pedal hydraulic system has a malfunction. When you push the pedal down, a rod from the top of pedal pushes into the clutch master cylinder bolted to the firewall under the hood. This cylinder has a reservoir filled with brake fluid. When the rod forces fluid from the clutch master down a steel line and into the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission bell housing, the hydraulic pressure forces a plunger from the slave cylinder to extend and push the clutch fork lever a small amount, enough to force the clutch release bearing (aka throw-out bearing) against the pressure plate. This relieves pressure on the clutch disc and input shaft becomes stationary for easy shifting.

2001 CRD Grand Voyager - clutch won't disengage.

Is there any fluid on the ground near the transmission? It's possible the clutch actuating cylinder has failed. If it was air in the line you would have noticed it the day you got it back. The master cylinder is on the firewall next to the brake master. You can add fluid if it's low. If it's empty then there may be a loose fitting or the bleeder screw on the actuating cylinder may be loose too.

2001 grand vitara trys to move when clutch is down

Hi Paul, Sounds as if you have a clutch problem. First thing to do is check the fluid level in the clutch reservoir. If it is low as I suspect, it must be leaking somewhere. The only places it can leak are from the master cylinder, slave cylinder or the pipe. Determine where the leakage is and attend to it. It very well may mean replacing one or both cylinders. Bleed the system by keeping the reservoir full at all times. (You will need the help of a friend) and then get under the vehicle and open the bleed nipple and let the fluid drip into a container until the flow has no bubbles. Close the nipple. Press the clutch pedal and if the pedal feels firm and does its job of disengaging the clutch, your done. If not pump the pedal twice and and tell your friend to get under (what are friends for?) With the pedal held flat to the floor, you say in a very load voice "Open, Close!" Pump twice again and continue until the clutch feels correct. If the clutch continues failing to disengage when fully depressed, try adjusting it. Look under the dash and at the top end of the pedal arm is an adjustable rod. loosen the locking nut and turn the rod, extending it until free play in the pedal is back to normal, a little under an inch. When finished do not change clothing, as you would like everyone to know that you are a super mechanic, and the same for your friend. Take a trip into town and buy two soda's (no booze while driving, but your friend can have.) Chat loudly about the job so everyone can hear you. If the plan works, we'll be here waiting to give more advise when you set up your repair shop. Best regards John

Clutch not fully disengaging and clutch pedal has alot of play

The next idea is you need to get under the car, have somebody push the pedal and see how far the slave is moving the rod which is move the throwout fork which is move the bearing. With a little work and a flashlight you can figure this problem out pretty easy. There is a rod that attaches to the clutch pedal that is adjustable. Loosen the lock nut and screw the rod out to lessen the amount of free play. You might no have the clutch plate aligned. Hope this helps :)

How do you adjust the clutch on a 1991 honda civic 1.5

The 1991 model was not hydraulic. There is a cable extending from the clutch pedal to the bell housing on the passenger side of the engine compartment. There is a plastic adjusting nut where the cable enters the bell housing. Turning the nut to the right tightens the cable and reduces the amount of travel required to disengage the clutch.

On solution #1 dec 2008 I would like to know where i could get the adjustable clutch master rod between the master cylinder and the clutch pedal. He mentioned it could be purchased on line but did not say...

After reading this I have to ask if parts are origional why do they not work properly. My first suggestion is that bleading not done effectively. If air is present in line, slave cylender etc. then it would not have travel needed or master cylinder is frozen at point short of origional return or is wrong one. There shouldn't be a reason to have to purchase rod with upgrade unless specified by manufacturer and if so then they should have supplied it. Inspect each part and compare with old ones if possible, if master is origional then make sure that it returns fully to give travel to pedal. when bleading system fill slave cylinder as much as possible disconnected from line and blead many times.
