Your temp.gauge is probably bad ! Check for voltage at the coolant temp. sender ! You have to check it with the engine running . The red with white stripe should have a voltage the other wire ,yellow with red stripe is ground side ! Instrument panel fuse box fuse # 15 a 10amp fuse powers the gauges ,if your gas gauge works it's not the fuse . The dome lights get there power from an other fuse an circuit ! Did you check the bulb ? Check fuse # 8 IP fuse box , also a 10amp . Check for voltage at the dome light ,switch on !
the instrument cluster has a fuse that provides power to it. look for the fuse in the fuse box on the bottom left driver side, just underneath the panel. or below the light switch behind the panel.
Instead of wasting time searching for the exact location, why not just remove each fuse 1 by 1, and replacing them as you go so you don't mix them up. If you have any blown fuses, you will find it in under 30 seconds. If you don't know the difference between a good vs blown fuse, ill post a picture to help you identify. If no fuse is found, I would suspect that your light switch is faulty.
I don't think there is a fuse for the dash lights. On newer GM trucks the lighting is handle by the body computer, the switches provide ground to the BCM and power for the dash lights comes from it. The headlight switch provides a ground to the BCM and to the headlight relays. All of the external lights have fuses. If you can't find a fuse for dash lights in the owners manual I will say it has been dropped.
You may want to check to see if you have a "gauges" fuse on the fuse panel. Another possibility is the cigarette lighter fuse. Sometimes they're wired on the same circuit.
There a couple of possibilities; you could have an intermittent oil pressure switch or an intermittent stepper motor in the instrument cluster. The stepper motor drives the gauge.
Dash lights sounds like you have a fuse or relay bad and that could include your gauges as well. Look under the hood for anything marked "cluster" in the fuse panel. If not there, it should be under the driverside of the dash.
