Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid

Replaced fuel pump, spark plugs wires, fuel injector control valve and it still skips and stalls and the gas smells really rich 97 dodge intrepid

Need a little more info to fixya.
Have you checked the MAP, O2, Coolant temp sensors (as well as all the rest) and the wires running to them?
Have you tried unplugging the sensors one at a time and seeing if that changes things?
Have you checked the conditions of the vacuum lines?
Lastly have you scanned the compute for codes?

Find out if the engine is getting gas to it. Sometimes a plugged fuel filter or a problem with the fuel injectors can prevent the engine from getting any gasoline. To check this remove the air cleaner and smell inside the throttle body or air cleaner housing. If the engine is getting enough gas you should be able to sense a strong gasoline smell due to the amount of uncombusted fuel left inside the intake manifold.
Determine whether the spark plugs are firing. If there is plenty of gas but no spark, the engine will crank but not start. Unplug one of the spark plug wires and plug in a spark tester. Have a friend get in the car and crank the engine while you watch to see if the spark tester illuminates. You can usually purchase a spark tester at an auto parts store for about ten dollars.

2000 intrepid stalls and chugs


Is the check engine light on? Could be anything from bad fule filter to bad pump to injectors along with a Bad ECM leaking intake, bad spark plugs or wires just to start. Really need more info than this to diagnose the issue

I have a 1990 mitsubishi might max it wont run smooth unless you keep your foot on the gas and keep the rpms up a little bit and it wont drive cause it stalls everytime you try to move it. ive replaced the...


You've already eliminated the spark plug & wireset, distributor cap & rotor.
Sounds like your car needs a tune-up, specifically, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, and/of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Components checked/replaced during a tune-up are:
air filter
motor oil
motor oil filter
breather filter
fuel filter(s)
fuel strainer
PCV valve
EGR valve
spark plugs
spark plug wires
ECM or distributor cap & rotor
cabin air filter
transmission oil filter
transmission oil
engine coolant
check all vacuum hoses and lines

Troubleshooting the no-start condition - from the 1990 Mitsu Mighty Max Repair Manual:

Hi, if the injector is not on the data list of the scan result then you have no reason to try and test the injector which can be located with the help o the car user manual...
The cause of misfiring #1 cylinder may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

I will also strongly suggest you carry out the compression test........

My truck starts then stalls looking at the fuel injectors its like its getting to much gas then it stalls out i took out a spark plug after it stalled and its black and white smoke came out its burning to...


The white smoke bothers me the most. I see you did alot of fuel stuff. Did you do a fuel sample? Does the exhaust smell sweet like you are burning antifreeze?

If you try a TPS (throttle position sensor) it controls the spark and fuel. Since it has such a broad range of operation it may not send a Code unless it is burned out. I am unsure what engine you have, but a Mass Airflow sensor can mess up the fuel ratios. Good luck on this repair.

If there isn't much pressure, cycle the ignition without turning the engine over and try again. If it is still weak, you may need a new fuel filter. If it is strong, you may have dirty or clogged fuel injectors.

It may be spark, but I'm inclined to think it is fuel related.

If I read it right then you have flood of Fuel. Have you check all the spark plugs to see all the same wetness. You have not mentioned spark plugs replacement, so I assumed that you have strong spark. Therefore I conclude your problem is the Fuel distributor. Hope it can help?

My jeep grand cherokee is smoking really bad. Black smoke and it also skips. What might this be?


Black smoke is too much fuel. Bad spark plug, or plugs, bad spark plug wire or wires, bad injector, allow engine to cool, pull the spark plugs. does one look bad? Replace one or all. Plug wires don't last forever. An injector can stick open an pass too much gas :)
