engine size state, nice that....
fsm quotes for real engine.
  • Spark plug cable center cover and remove the spark plug cables
  • remove spark plug using a spark plug socket, (3/8" drive)
  • to know size tool , buy the spark plugs first and measure it.
  • if boots are tight do not force them. twist gently or use a very narrow, rod or long skinny screw driver to break the sticky gum there. i have a special tool for this.. ask.(air tool)
  • with the plugs unscrewed, and if in deep wells, look for oil down the hole, if full of oil , the Valve cover gasket is bad an this tuneup ends. fix that first. if not full of oil we use one of 3 tools to pull the plug. a 1/4?"did hose. or my mag pickup wand or my grabber wand. this is SOP. standard op. proceedures on all welled plugs.
this is engine has coil packs,, seen below.
see those high voltage wire, they go to 6 spark plugs
remove covers to see boots on sparks, twisth me gently
i would buy new NGK blue mag wires. and replace all wire.
if near or over 100k miles.

Firing order mitsubishi 3.5

Mitsubishi Montero 3.5 V-6n24 valve

Looking from the front of engine to the rear on the passenger side 1-3-5
Looking from the front of the engine to the rear on the drivers side 2-4-6

The engine has coil over plug with coils only on the drivers side. The spark is shared via spark plug cables to the plugs on the passenger side. So If you are replacing the spark plug cables:

#2 cyl.coil drivers side shares spark with #5 passenger side-
#4 coil drivers side shares spark with #1 passenger side-
#6 coil drivers side shares spark with #3 cylinder passenger side.

How to change spark plug, can not get spark plug cover off. How did i get the screw out to take of the cover. Do I need a special tool

Tools Required or used to assist:

-1/4" ratchet
-1/2" ratchet
-Long extension
-Short extension
-3/4" (I believe, the normal sized one, not the huge one) spark plug socket
-Needle Nose pliers
-Flat head screw driver
-Adjustable pliers
-8mm socket
-10mm socket
-12mm socket
-#5 Hex Wrench
-12mm wrench with closed end on one side
-Spark plug gap tool with wire gap checker
-Flashlight
1. Buy replacement spark plugs. I bought Bosch Platinum+2 plugs for about $4/apiece from an online parts store, but from what I've read, the Platinum+4 are much better. They provide much more complete ignition and offer a noticeable improvement in mileage. One anecdote I heard was a friend of a friend who went from 20mpg to 24mpg on his BMW 3-series. The platinum+4 are only $1 more, so the possible performance improvement is well worth it.

2. Get your tools.

3. Remove the engine vanity cover by removing the three bolts near the base (front) of the engine. You'll need a hex wrench to get these out. See the picture below for location. Once the screws are out, rotate the lexus logo 90? and the cover should come off pretty easily.

4. Practice removing one of the easier spark plugs in the front.

5. First, disconnect the electrical connector from the spark plug tube head by pressing the end with your thumb and using a flat-head screwdriver to pry the connector off. Remove the spark plug tube screw using a socket wrench or equivalent. The tube should now slide out. See the picture below for reference. That was practice, now put it back in and replace the screw holding it in place.

6. Clean the area around each spark plug tube using a hand towel, pressurized air canister, or both. This includes the spark plugs behind the intake manifold. This will be tough because you will have to work by hand, but it is important.

7. Start by removing the most difficult spark plugs - in this case, the back ones. It is better to do the easy ones last, in case - for some reason - you give up or can't get the back plugs out. The back plugs are located behind the intake manifold (see picture below). You'll have to get to them through the opening indicated by the '''blue arrow. You can make this more accessible by removing what I think is the cruise control bracket. Loosen the nut indicated by the '''yellow arrow and remove the bolt indicated by the '''red arrow. Warning: these might be very tight.'''''''''

8. Repeat step 5 starting with the rear right spark plug (rear right when facing the front of the car), followed by the rear center, then rear left. When removing the spark plug, be sure not to let any dirt or debris fall into the engine. It could cause sever damage. The best thing to do is to remove the old spark plug, briefly inspect it, and immediately begin installing the new spark plug.

In case of a problem or clarification or my solution was insufficient, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

Replacing spark plug wires for 2003 Buick Rendezvous

The front bank of plug wire is easy just remove them one at a time and trace them back to the coil pack. making sure you put them back in there clip harness. The rear bank of plug wire is much harder In the shop we have a tool the titls the engine a little foward and allows you to reach in over or around the engine to gain access to the rear bank of spark plug wire . this tool is sold by OTC , Snap on , Matco , Mac or you might try your local parts store to see if they have one for loan or rent . the firing order on your buick is coil nearest the drive side is 1/4 middle coil is 3/6 and the end coil nearest the passanger side is 2/5

Is it true on 5.4 06 that you need a special tool and only ford can change the spark plugs

Yes it is true.

The special too is to remove a broken spark plug.

It is not recommended to do anything to the spark plugs until 100K.

RECOMENDATION:

If your not a mechanic spend the money go to the Ford dealer and let them address this issue.

It will be worth it not to need to pay for a tow truck.

Hope this tip helps.

I replaced my spark plug wires on my 1996 chevy truck. may have crossed one, need a diagram from the spark plugs to the distributer cap.

Since you didn't state whether it is a V6 or V8, I'll give you both.

V6 -4.3Liter
Firing Order is 1-6-5-4-3-2
Distributor rotor turns Clockwise
Number 1 spark plug tower on distributor cap, faces the front of the engine.

->Drivers side, spark plug order in engine, starting from the Front going back:
1-3-5
->Passenger side, spark plug order in engine,
starting from the Front going back:
2-4-6

If it's Electronic, the distributor cap has a Left side, (Drivers side), and a Right side, (Passenger side)
Starting from the Front, going back on the Left side,
3-1-5
Starting from the Front going back on the Right side,
2-4-6

V8-5.0, 5.7, and 7.4Liter
Firing Order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Number 1 spark plug tower on distributor cap,
faces Front, towards the Drivers side.

Electronic distributor cap has two sides. Drivers, (Left), side and Passenger, (Right), side.
Starting from Front going back on Drivers side,
1-7-3-5
Starting from Front going back on Passenger side,
8-2-4-6

Spark plug order in engine, starting from Front going back, Drivers side:

How do I change my spark plugs on my 2002 toyota tacoma

On the V6 engine The drivers side plugs are easy although the passenger side will require you to remove the intake boot and the coil packs, easily done with a 10 mm socket and ratchet. Disconect the coil pack connectors by depressing the plastic clip and pulling them off one by one on the three coil packs . leave the plug wires attached and pull the coil pack straight up and off the spark plug.Blow out the area around the plug with compressed air to prevent debris from entering engine when the plugs are removed. Use a 5/8 spark plug socket and a 8 inch extension bar on your 3/8 ratchet at remove the plugs. use anti seize on the new plugs, gap the plugs to manufacturer specs and install your new plugs 2. If its a 4 cyl engine its actually a bit more difficult. The intake boot assembly has a bracket that bolts to the valve cover and side of the engine and you must remove it to access the 4 coil packs on top of the engine. once again the coil pack wires must be disconected and the coil packs un bolted and removed from the valve cover to access the plugs. Blow all dirt from around plug with compressed air to prevent foreign objects or dirt from entering the engine when you remove the spark plug , once again use a 3/8 ratchet and an extension with your 5/8 spark plug socket and remove plugs, use a small amount of anti seize compound on the threads of the nes plugs and gap them to manufacturer specs before installation. Also while the coil packs are off,, Inspect them for ARC Tracing a white residue and line may form on the coil pack Tip/boot if you see alot of ARC tracing Id suggest replacing that coil pack. Especially if you have a misfire condition.

Spark plug removal for 1996 Chevy S-10 Pick-up

It take's about 10 min to remove and replace that plug, You need a spark plug socket with a built in swivel and extension. All the plugs should be removed from going through the wheel well by just moving the slash guard out of the way. With the number #3 plug, (drivers side center) Your going to have to use the swivel socket to break loose the spark plug then remove by hand, there is not enough room for the socket and plug to be removed so it needs to be removed by hand and installed by hand too. Once the new plug is installed you can torque it by working the socket back on and then the extension. Good luck and hope this helps, all the other plug can be replaced through the wheel wel; without removing any other thing un less your a larger person and would like to remove the wheel for more room or just by jacking the S10 up but the front frame. Keep me posted and careful not to break a plug.
