Question about 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD

I have a 98 dodge ram 4x4 the trans has reverse nothing in drive ,second and then when u go all the way to low u have reverse again

Sounds like a bad solenoid pack, or a bad trans.

It won't shift 1-2 or 2-3 or both unless you let off? If it is just 1-2 it might be a band adjustment, but I'll bet you have a plugged governor solenoid screen also.

Get the pump pressure checked in your transmission. It sounds to me like you have low trans pressure. It will act like a slipping clutch in a manual. Also check your trans filter. It will amaze you the difference it makes when you change a clogged filter. Good luck.

It would be one of 2 things. Either the transmission is very low on fluid or the pump inside it has gone bad. Check the fluid first. If the pump is bad call the rebuild shop to see if there might be warranty left. Hope this helps.

Tranny on a 96 dodge ram 4x4


Have a qualified tech check the governor pressure sensor - sometimes these go bad on this trans - I assume it's the 46re.
