My wife tried to start the car but it would not start. It did this a month ago but the next day it started and ran good till yesterday now it does start again

The next time it does this use a can of starting fluid to see if the fuel pump is defective, they stick and don't come on at times, this is fairly common in cars approaching the 100,000 mile mark. If the car starts on spray starting fluid then the fuel pump is the problem, it is electric and located inside the fuel tank, the tank mus be dropped out of the car to replace it.

Could be the fuel pump. Try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank a few times while someone try's to start it, if it starts then the pump is on it's way out.

If it is the fuel pump, you can get an inline electric one for about $60 and use it till you can afford the other.

Have you checked for spark at the plugs?

Fuel pump?

This is almost for sure a connection problem, check the relay for the fuel pump.

Testing fuel pressure

the port is on the fuel rail on top of the motor. it looks like a big air valve that you find on the wheel.

If i stop or let idle i feels like its being starved for fuel.. turn off the engine and start it again it runs fine till i stop again. Just replaced the fuel pump a week ago and has been running fine.

Mine did that to me about 4 months ago. I started by changing the fuel filter it ran great for a month. but by doing that it released all the pressure off of the fuel pump which then went out. If you run your vehicle below 1/4 tank it starves the fuel pump. The pump needs that fuel because; The fuel is the lubrication for the pump. Running your tank down consistently over a period of time will short the pump out faster.

1997 GMC K1500 4x4 5.7 ex.cab SFI injection system

fuel pump died replaced it truck ran poorly afterwards. Had a prussuer test done pump determend pump was no good. Put in another ran good for 2 days started running poorly hard to start no power. 2nd fuel pump. So i figure another bad new fuel pump wow changed it put in a third brand new fuel pump. Still will not eve start now. I had it tuned up 2 months ago new plugs rotor, cap, etc. put in a new fuel filter made sure it is on proper checked all connections for leaks. this cannot be a fuel pump problem now. no problem with the elctrical i figure i have great spark on ignition tester. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key. but when i went and checked the fuel port i had no pressure. When it is being cranked gas sews out of the test port. Also i dont if this is comon cause i used to turn my keyand go. but when i have someone turn the key and i listen at the gas tank whn the key is shut off i hear gs spraying back into the gas tank. So i am open for opinions.
