Question about 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Spits ,sputters, white smoke near radiator now to?

I have an 93 olds cutlass.supreme .the car sat for 4 month without being started. at first it wouldn't start jumped it worked for 3 days then died,jiggled cable to battery its fine, now it starts but it spits and sputters and loses power like its going to die,its like I cant see to get it out of 1st gear and there is smoke( white) that looks like its coming from the raditor area . do i have a circulation problem or is my trany. i just don't know were to start

Try cleaning your battery post both of them cause u my have a bad connection and for the smoke you could have oil in the cylinders and if it smokes at the radiator you could have a coolant leak. and you also could have bad gas in it cause it sit so long and the gas today dont sit well very long before going bad

Souhds like a blownhead gasket ,remove radiastor cap fill with water have someone crank engine over and see if water is spitting out if so thic confirms head gasket is blown

93 cutlass supreme broken how to open hood ( without needlenose pliers)


I had this problem when the locking mechanism rusted up. I had to go in through the bottom on the front side of the radiator to force the rotating lock open enough to get the hood to pop and then I could open it up completely. No real good way to do it that I can see beyond that...it was a pain, but I got.

My 93 olds cutls suprm is overheating. Over a course of events I have replaced a radiator hose, thermostat and replaced the radiator. The service engine light comes on. My drive belt is ripped to shreds...


pull the spark plugs, they should all be the samo color, if any are light tan you have coolant in the cyl, you can also pressurize the rad and check for leakage into the cyls, you will require a probe, or the rad professionally checked for exhaust in the system, other symptoms are rough starting and smoke out of the exhaust

Does the car overheat?
If the head gasket is blown:
1. remove the radiator cap & start car (apply parking/emergency brake).
1. When the engine warms to operating temp, there will be "steam" bubbles coming from the radiator opening.
2. There will be WHITE smoke and water drops coming from the tailpipe..
3. Your oil dipstick will have a "white milky" liquid mixed with the oil.

If none of these are present (normal to have some water dripping from the tailpipe) then the head gasket is probably ok.

testing the compression on each cylinder may be inconclusive, so I don't recommend going to the trouble of a compression test (yet).

1. Obtain a good radiator flush (Prestone) and clean out your system a couple of times.
2. Really good OEM radiators:Try "Cactus Radiators" or any that anyone else recommends.

Car spits and sputters and stalls after driving a while


sounds like a fuel pump problem,with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume,try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time,hope this helps

Sticking throttle linkage, or faulty idle control system.

Falls dead when driving, will restart after awhile


Did you try checking or replacing the coolant sensor? I think you should replace it along with the thermostat. Are there any problems like sputtering or any unusual noises or symptoms? Smoke, anything?

Lack of power


You need to check a service manual on this but it sounds a bunch like a cold-start valve isn't closing once the engine is warm and this would cause an overly rich fuel-air mix that would gag a warm engine. I don't know if your car is equipped with  one or not.
