Hesitation when sitting for a while and while driving

I have a 2003 Elantra. I have had it into the shop numerous times in the last few months and I have had a new transmission, been told the transmission fluid was to high they lowered it, oil was dirty so they changed it without my permission and new catalytic converter. Now it is in again and they are stating that they can find nothing wrong with it. I am so frustrated. Can anyone help????

If the car has more than 60,000 miles on it the Oxygen sensor may need to be replaced, you can bring the car to Auto zone or advance auto to have them hook up the code reader computer to check and see if the computer has stored any information in regards to the hesitation issue, besides doing that you really shouldn't go replacing components until you know for sure what the actual problem is if you don't have a check engine light on it makes it difficult to diagnose newer cars without me being right there.

Engine hesitation

When is the last time the engine had a tune up with new spark plugs and an inspection of the ignition coils? Ignition coils were a pretty common issue with the V6 engine around that model year.

Also have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. Interesting same thing has gone wrong with mine within two months of yours. Get the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Maybe these just wear out in time. The car will start one day and the next day it will not. It was a puzzle until the check engine light came on this last time. I actually cheered because it meant the computer would register a problem. It cost $220 for parts and labor at the dealership. It's worth it or it will continue to leave you stranded at various times without warning. Since replaced I have noticed my car engine seems to be running better that I didn't notice was off before. Car has been fine so far.

2003 Hyundai Elantra can the car fail inspection if your check engine light came on a few times in the last month and 1/2. The light didn't stay on long though Will spark plugs making a backfiring noise...

Until you verify which codes occured, your guess is as good as mine. Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

2003 Hyundai Elantra It sounds the backfiring

At first blush, sounds like the knock sensor making the car misfire. Other possibilities are:
  • fouled spark plug; might not notice it at idle but would misfire at higher speeds; check the plugs as well as the valve cover gasket for oil seepage
  • if you've noticed a sulphur smelling exhaust or excessive heat from the exhaust, it could be the catalytic converter (more likely if there is high mileage on the car). Another symptom would be very bad performance and poor gas mileage.

Amazing!.. Belts don't 'ignite!' Never have and never will. Find yourself a good mechanic/technician and get them to look at it.
