Question about 1990 Ford Probe

2 Answers

A 1994 Ford Probe with 2.0L DOHC radiator never stays filled but I see no leak and no tailpipe smoke. Could the catalytic converter cover up the problem? It also overheats. I experienced something similar on a 1997 Ford Escort(also after changing a water pump) and after a while I just let the radiator cap fly off and the anti-freeze fly everywhere then topped it off then I never had a problem with it again. Is it a common problem getting all the air out of Ford cooling systems?

I just changed a water pump which did not leak when running but dripped when sitting....off....you can also, with any car that I have had....pull the bottom rubber off the rad cap...thereby releasing all pressure..of course do not do this when hot and under pressure. There was also a leak in the 4 in. hose just under the throttle body...on top of the motor....easy to see and access.

The coolant is going somewhere maybe an internal leak look at the dip stick to see if any white substance is present also unscrew oil filler cap and look on the back side if any white substance is present you have internal coolant leak.

Have lots of water and smoke exiting the exuast have changed, oil, and both rocket covers with gasket Blowing smoke and water out of exhaust, changed oil and the oil filter..was broken down.old

Some water is expected on low emission vehicles, It's from the oxidation process of the catalytic converter. What color smoke ? Blue - oil , black it's running rich . White - coolant , blown head gasket . You don't want to use stop leak ,it will plug radiator an heater core . Fix the problem right ! Take it to a ASE certified repair shop . Some people are just not meant to work on cars !

Why wont my radiater hold water and why is my catalatic converter getting red hot?

You may have a small leak in your water pump and it only leaks when you drive. Or god forbid a cracked block and the water is mixing with your oil (see white smoke coming from tailpipe?)

with the smoke and smell i'd think the catalytic convertor/exhaust system is getting blocked .Get a fuel addative that covers the cat convertor as well as the valves etc , should clean out the system , might have to do two treatments , follow the manufactureres instructions

95 ford probe car runs ok but blows whitish blue smoke as accelerate

That is probably the head gasket leaking. White smoke is from antifreeze going through the exhaust. The engine compression is pushing the water out of the radiator.

2002 Ford Taurus Burning rubber smell white smoke from under the hood no oil or coolant leaks 3.0L DOHC

Is there a squealing noise like the pulley may have locked up? Make sure you don't have wiring getting hot.Check all areas near the exhaust and at the firewall area where the EGR piping comes off the exhaust.
Make sure nothing is laying against the exhaust or catalytic converter. don-ohio

Car keeps cutting off while driveing also missng

I have a 1989 Probe LX and I had a problem that felt like vapor lock... it was cutting out and driving real slugish with a huge loss of power. My mechanic played around with it and found way too much exhaust back pressure. He replaced the exhaust pipe from the manifold to the tailpipe and that fixed the problem, which turned out to be the catalytic converter rusting out and it collaped on the inside, blocking off most of the exhaust before it could go out the tailpipe. expensive problem solved, car runs great now!
