The handbrake on my car needs ajusting and i need some help with it
If you remove the center console you should be able to get at your adjusting screw. The end of the brake cable where it attaches to the brake handle will usually have a large threaded area for adjustment with an adjustment nut and a jamb nut. Simply loosen the jamb nut and set the desired cable tension with the adjustment nut and tighten the jamb nut back down. Then replace the console. If you are unable to get the desired tension at the cable you might have worn brake shoes that need replacing.

The hand brake on this model can be adjusted from inside the car. Where the handbrake is in the center console, the plastic around it can be taken off. There is a screw on each side that needs to come out, and then from there just pull up, and twist it around and up from the parking brake. Set it aside along with the screws. On the inside you will see what looks like a long gold colored screw, t his is for the tension adjustment. Part of it should have a hex head that you can fit a wrench on. My 03 Hyundai uses a 12mm wrench. Keep turning it towards the passenger side occasionally pulling up on the hand brake to test the tension. Once the tension feels tight but not too tight that's it and you are done. You should be able to pull up on the hand brake about 3-4 clicks and that would be appropriate tension...

i think you'll have to look at the piece of felt under the casette holder lid , lift the felt up using a very fine flat ended screw driver and there should be a couple of bolts under there !
if yes , then take the lid off also , another two philips head screws . if its the same as the centre console of the 1998 model !!
now , having removed the bolts , gently lift the rear end of the centre console , with a torch you should be able to see the adjuster .
Make sure the hand brake is down , so put bricks under one or both of the front wheels and leave it in gear , also , do this on a flat surface !!!!
Adfter you've done the adjustment , before putting everything back together , put the console into normal position and try putting handbrake on and off , it should feel firm to lock the back brake !
then if all is okay , put the screws back in reverse order good luck

Adjusting the handbrake is easy.Between the two front seats where the cup holders are behind there is a cubby hole. This has a bottom which can be easily prised out.You will see the handbrake adjusters which you just need to tighten.
