Starter needs to run from battery; alternator should not provide power to the starter, as its only intention is to start the motor.

SOURCE: Wiring Diagram 1998 Chevy S-10 starter replacement

The starter has one large cable from the battery positive, and a wire that goes to the solenoid (Part of the starter) that becomes hot when the key ignition is turned to start. This also passes through the neutral safety switch. (So it wont start in gear) Not sure if this is what you need, a little vague.

The main Battery positive feed to the back of the alternator comes from the starter solenoid , has a fusible link . Did you hook it up correctly ? With a voltmeter check for battery voltage at the heavier gage wire at the back of the alternator .

I bought a new alternater and battery the alternater isnt charging the battery what else could be wrong

You have to check for B+ voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator , could have a blown fusible link , plus the smaller gage wires at the connector that plug into the alternator mite have B+ voltage as well . You could look at a wiring diagram , that would show you . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html .Plus watch Test and troubleshoot your charging system Battery alternator testing

Sounds as if the Alarm was Disconnected and the Original wires were NOT PROPERLY Spliced back together, and the Wires you speak of, I would NOT TRUST Unless you can Determine that they are ORIGINAL to the Vehicle, You Must Hunt DOWN ALL ORIGINAL WIRING FOR THE IGNITION. Purple, RED PINK, YELLOW, ORANGE, Are the COLORS for the IGNITION thesr are all the MAIN Wires that Supply POWER for ALL KEY ON Components, and the PURPLE is the START TRIGGER Wire to the STARTER. rejakwilson @aol.comfor IN DEPTH Info on this, and Please EXPLAIN what you DO Have, where they are located,ETC. Hope this Helps you.!!

Subaru ea81 starter solenoid wiring diagram

Some starter solenoids are mounted on the fender near the battery and some are on the starter itself.

Typically the ones mounted on the fender have two larger posts and one smaller post. For the larger posts: One connects strait to the positive post on the battery. The other connects strait to the starter. The smaller post connects to the neutral safety switch which connects to the start position of the ignition switch. Here is a diagram. Make sure the solenoid is grounded good.

For the solenoid that is mounted on the starter: Connect the positive post of the battery to the large post on the starter. Connect smaller neutral safety switch/ignition switch wire to the smaller post.

Here is a diagram if you have both solenoids

Don't forget to hook backup any other wires that were hooked to the positive side of battery/solenoid like alternator wire etc.

New Alternater will not charge batery

When you touch the hot wire to the manifold you may have damaged your alternator. Take your Blazer to your local car service center such as Advance auto and have them run a test to make sure your rebuilt alternator is charging. Most centers will do this free of charge.

Alternator Problems

You have two get the correct alternater, it is presently running at full charge all the time and not regulating. If you continue to drive it this way, it will burn out more things, including the battery. To warn you, this is what causes batteries to explode, trust me, you don't want this to happen. It is possible you could get someone to wire up the alternater your using now but they will need some experience and a good diagram.
