The 305 is out of a 78 monte carlo and I'm putting it in a 79. I havnt had time to check, but I was told it was the distribut that needs adjustment as well as setting the engine to top dead center.

    Thanks again for your help.

Do you have gas and spark? If so recheck your timing.

You may have already got this, I forgot to sign in first. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, odd numbers on the driver's side and even on the passengerside. Number 1 is closest to the rad, but I need to know the year and what the engine came out of to tell you more, Like how to position the distributor and the advance. Let me know, I'll be around most of the day.

According to my books, 0 on your harmonic balancer should be top dead center. Also your HEI coil should be running from 6:00to 12:00 o'clock with number 1 at the 5:30 position and wire counter clockwise from there. Timing should be 4 degrees Before TDC, except in Californiawhich is 6 degrees Before and high altitude which is 8 degrees Before. Hope this helps.

1998 monte carlo 3.1 v6 . Engine cranks there is ample spark ample fuel. Tries to fire will not start any ideas

If there is spark and fuel, than your timing may be off or there is a bad sensor. Also check fuses and relays.
