Question about 1999 Saab 9-5

I have a saab 95 2001 and the air flow from the heater is faulty

My saab 95 will only blow air flow up to the windscreen and not any other vent is there a repair for this fault?

Sounds like you need a new air distribution box, mor than likely a plastic link on the box is broken. Do you hear any motors trying to change the air flow?

SOURCE: no air flow to dash vents and feet vents

99% of the time when they do that it is the control head. that is the thing you adjust all your temp settings on. have to purchase from dealer. have last eight digits of vin # when ordering.

SOURCE: Faulty Fan Heater - The main vents are just blowing out cold air.

Go to your idrive., climate the vent settings. you will see a person along with vent areas on the side.
If this persons color is blue it blows cold air so turn the dial for vent closest to that person until the
color changes red then hot air comes out on the vents for driver and passenger. Then let me know.

SOURCE: Heat wont blow through heater or defroster vents

common problem, check under dash by the gas pedal if control arms are muving went selecting from ac to heat cuz this it is the control for the vents to go from ac to heat and to defrost.

Heat does not blow onto windscreen but blows through other vents - whats wrong


What make an model an year vehicle do you have ? The air blows out of the floor vents an center vents but not defrost ? Possible mode actuator , stuck mode door ! There is a door inside the heater / A/C assembly that directs the air to the desired position . These doors can be moved by a vacuum operated actuator or an electric motor . Sometimes thing's put on the dash end up inside the heater box , fall through defroster vent ! Pens , pencils etc.. Depends on the make vehicle an system , manual , or automatic climate control . Some of the newer vehicles the HVAC system as it is called , the control panel is a electronic control module an can store DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !

I have a Saab 9-3 2004 when I put the heating on I get a strong smell plus water coming on to the window screen can anyone help


check the heater core for leaks. Have a coolant pressure test done with the heater switched on. It may be coolant smell and water being blown up the vent pipes onto the windscreen

AC will not blow out of the dash vents, only the defroster vents or heater vents. Can I access the vent door underneath the dash?vents


Under neath the venting system behind console there is a venting housing that can be removed. Likely the air flow directional vent flap is stuck or the motor that moves the vent is faulty.

My 92 Saab 900 blows cold air constantly and the temp gauge stays on low. I replaced the thermostat but still no change. When the heat switch is off for a period of time while driving I can turn the switch...


Unless you have symptoms of over-heating, I rather doubt that your water pump is a problem. I recall that my water pump had a metal impeller (1992 C900); I haven't heard of a plastic impeller on a Saab pump before. (Most pump failures are the bearing seal, and the pump leaks coolant) If your temp gauge is slightly low (and was OK before) I'd rule out water pump issues.

You might have one or more of the following issues:
  1. did you use a Saab thermostat? The Saab stat has three stages (no flow to rad - cold; flow to rad and heater core - normal operation; and no flow to heater core, full flow to rad - overheating) that most after market stats don't.
  2. did you use a low temp stat? this opens at about 82 deg (rather than 89 deg), and will run cooler during the winter, hence you gauge will show lower than the mid point. The big benefit is that your engine won't overheat during the summer (a very good thing!) with the low temp stat.
  3. has your rad and heater core been flushed recently? If the heater core is obstructed flow will be reduced and the heater will run cool. Feel the rad and heater hoses when your engine is warm; if heater hose is much cooler than rad hose with heater temp set to max, then core flow is likely restricted, or valve is not moving much from the shut position.
  4. is you vacuum tank properly connected and are there no leaks in the vacuum piping? The tank is in the driver side rear wheel well below the trunk deck on a convertible, and in the passenger side front fender area on the other cars. It's a white bottle with one or two hoses connected to it. If not properly on, your vacuum operated heater flaps won't move. Does the air distribution knob make sucking or hissing noises when you set it to different positions? If not, check the tank connections, look for vacuum line leaks, then suspect the vacuum valve behind the distribution knob.
  5. Lastly, the shaft connecting the temp control knob to the valve behind it may not be properly in place. This can be inspected, and adjusted if necessary, from the speaker/vent cutout on top of the dash. Make sure you re-connect the black flex hose to the air vent tube, or you'll get no defrosting afterwards!
  6. remember, the centre vents always blow cold air; a brilliant idea from Saab so the driver (and passenger) can get fresh air in the face and stay awake while the rest of the driver, passenger and car is toasty!

Vent in centre of windscreen not working i have a A4 1.8T 2002 the vent in the centre of the windscreen stopped working a week ago drove the car the next day was working perfect it has just stopped working...


There is only one door. Air flows through the AC evaporator and the blend door diverts some or all of the flow through the heater core. For heat, the compressor is off under electric control and the non-refrigerated air is diverted through the heater core. The door is on a vertical axis and can swing to any position based on random corner turns, fan speed, mode, etc.

SECTION 412-01: Air Distribution and Filtering 2001 Focus Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Air Distribution and Filtering The new heating and ventilation system ensures even air distribution.
The temperature control and air distribution flaps are controlled by two operating cables. All vehicles have a recirculated air function, with the flap controlled by a servo motor.
Air is supplied to the windscreen and side windows regardless of the air distribution setting.
The clean air filter is fitted as standard in most countries. This cleans the incoming fresh air of pollen and dirt particles. It must be renewed after every 40,000 km under normal operation conditions, or after 20,000 km under difficult conditions. If no clean air filter is installed, a plastic grille is fitted over the air intake. This can easily be replaced with a clean air filter.

Face level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment at face level.
Face level/floor level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment in equal parts at face level and floor level, and a small amount flows to the demister nozzles of the side windows.
Floor level The main flow of air enters the passenger compartment at floor level, and a smaller amount flows to the demister nozzles of the side windows.

Windscreen air vent not blowing air


does the heater blow on different setting? i.e into the cabin?
if it does check the hose at the back of the dash hasnt come off and is stopping airflow to windscreen.
